We’ve seen some incredible technological changes throughout our lives—from rotary phones and black-and-white TVs to carrying the internet in our pockets. But it seems like the next big leap is already here: Artificial Intelligence and smart robots.
Lately, there’s been so much news about AI-powered humanoid robots (like the ones from Tesla and others). They are no longer just science fiction. Experts predict that in the next 5 to 10 years, these robots could be in our homes, helping with household chores, assisting with healthcare, and maybe even providing care for seniors.
While the convenience sounds amazing, I can’t help but wonder about the broader impact on our society. Are things moving too fast?
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this:
Are you excited about the future of AI and robots, or does it make you a bit uneasy?
Would you feel comfortable having an AI robot in your home doing chores or assisting with daily tasks?
Do you worry that we might lose the “human touch” as technology takes over more roles?
Hi Emma40 and welcome to the forum ! And your interest in robots. I’m an old duffer - to put that in perspective we didn’t have television or rotary phones. That said I have moved with the times. In the industrial field we have had robots for quite a few years replacing human activates. Now we are getting some simple robots in homes: “Alexa how long will the rain last”
Hi Besoeker, thanks for the welcome! I really appreciate your perspective. Moving from a time before rotary phones to chatting with Alexa is a massive leap! Your observation about industrial versus home robots is spot on. What makes the current AI trend so fascinating is that we are shifting from basic programmed automation like early factory robots to true autonomy. The next generation of home robots won’t just tell us how long the rain will last they might actually go and close the windows for us! Do you find this upcoming wave of home robotics exciting, or maybe a bit concerning?
Good morning, Spitfire! I absolutely love that analogy. It really demystifies the concept of “the cloud.” The only difference is that in these modern libraries, the “books” (servers) are constantly reading one another and generating new knowledge at lightning speed! Thanks for sharing such a great perspective.
Haha, I absolutely love the term Artificial Knowledge! It actually touches upon one of the biggest philosophical debates in the tech world right now. Are these models truly creating new knowledge, or are they simply exceptionally good at recombining and connecting existing human knowledge in ways we hadn’t thought of before? Either way, AK sounds really cool!
Ah, good old Blighty! The undisputed centre of the universe at least until you’ve had your morning cuppa. Hope it’s a great start to your day over there! Do you been CA Before ?
Ah, Cadbury World! Okay, I completely understand why you call it the centre of the universe now. Having a massive chocolate factory basically on your doorstep is living the dream. I’m officially jealous!
Haha, fair point! Sneaking past them is definitely the pro move. By the way, since we keep running into each other on here, I gotta ask what’s your actual name? Or should I just keep calling you spitfire?
