Have you ever felt like the person you used to be isn’t quite there anymore?

Over the years, I’ve noticed that many people hit a stage where the roles that once defined them — career, parenting, even hobbies — don’t feel quite the same anymore. Almost like an old version of themselves is fading, and a new one is waiting to take shape.

I’m curious how others here see it: have you ever felt that shift in identity? And if so, did you find ways to embrace it, or was it more of a struggle?

Welcome! Same person through the years. Different roles, responsibilities, challenges, and experiences but still the same person.

Had a shift in 76, ignored it, same with every shift since

I have and consider it natural and inevitable . Your question reminds me of a situation when a man who had not seen an acquaintance for a long time greeted him with the words: “You haven’t changed a bit” . “Oh!”, said the acquaintance and turned pale.

I have noticed a lot of change over the years. I like to think all of them have been for the better.

Life’s a journey, I’m just an old bloke with a freedom pass.

We think our lifetimes are short.
Imagine living the short life of a dog. :dog:

Add to that some of the bigger breeds are now bred larger then originally intended like Cane Corso , Rottweiler Dogue de Bordeaux , Great Danes , etc

So true. With a giant lab, mastiff, and otherwise glorious genetic mix at my feet, that chart often gnaws at my heart.

I recently read the question “Why is it that dogs have to live such a short time?”

It was answered, “Because they are such nearly perfect souls, they don’t need as much time on earth to work out the complex and flawed nature that humans have.”
