I love Bakewell Tarts, yet l can’t stand marzipan.
I made the ones pictured at midnight last night because l didn’t have time in the day! They were the second batch from the mixture l made on Sunday.
I make the pastry and the sponge mixture but l only use half and keep the rest in the fridge. I make 9 Bakewell Tarts at a time, as 18 is too many! They also taste nicer when fresh.
These don’t look great as l made them quick and browned them too much and the jam started to escape!
They taste lovely though!

It set me wondering. We can access recipes via books, television and the internet but if there were no televisions or radios back then and travel was really only for gentry. How did these regional recipes get passed on to other areas?

I love baking but HWMO loves Mr Kipling Cherry Bakewells so much, I can’t be bothered to attempt baking them. Much easier to just put them on the shopping list.

Thanks Art, No, I haven’t tried trifle Bakedwell Tarts. Not a big fan of Marzipan unfortunately, I am the one that when finishing a slice of Christmas cake, the marzipan remains on the plate! mind you, some of the recipes and pics on here are making me drool, they look so tempting.

All that talk of trifle bakewells gave me the munchies, so I popped up the road to the local convenience store where I usually get them and … THEY DIDN’T HAVE ANY!

So now I am home, with screaming munchies for trifle bakewells and no trifle bakewells.

And it’s all your fault!!!

It’s weird, because I can take or leave most cakes, biscuits, etc., but when I find something I really like, I go ape with it for a while.
Then I stop, and am not bothered, maybe for a year or two, and then something sets it off again!

Trifle bakewells are one of those things!

Is there a TBA society?
You know, a Trifle Bakewells Anonymous society?

Go try ‘em Angel darlin’ - Caramel icing on top of the doughnut with custard cream filling inside - they are absolutely gorgeous - I luv 'em !!! - notwithstanding I’m diabetic.
