Greta Thunberg is coming to Glasgow for COP26

I’m not anti Greta. We need more like her.

Erm … on second thoughts, maybe one’s enough.

One is one too many!!

It’s a sad fact @longdriver that regardless of how society progresses we will always have a ‘Greta’ of some kind or another. If there were no protesters at all it could only mean one thing. We are extinct. :man_shrugging:t2:

If she actually went to preach in China or India about their pollution levels instead of picking on soft targets, she may get her message across. She won’t of course because they wouldn’t take a blind bit of notice.

I totally agree with you Tezza. The Great Thunderbum is a waste of space as far as I’m concerned until she gets her backside over to China, India, and Russia and starts shouting where it would really count.

As for the growth in the human race, when will the Catholic Church change its stance on the use of contraception? That would help a great deal.

I ignore her … she’s an 18 year old trying to portray herself as a winsome little girl
She hasn’t yet recognised that she is part of the problem, along with the rest of us … not some endearing cute little Savior albeit with sharp teeth offering a solution.

If she was really serious she’d attack the Bransons, Elon Musks and Jeff Besozs of the world who think nothing of pollution , in fact, spend mega bucks on jaunts to the moon for celeberities, not to mention their personal egotistical fantasies of colonising Mars rather than improve planet Earth.

I kind of admire her spunk but she, and all her self-congratulatory ilk, always aim to undermine the ordinary man or woman , not the ones who actually maintain the status quo or decide global policies.

In short … there is no such thing (yet) as a common goal.

Yeah, what a girl!

She belongs to us. She’s a national treasure, adopted.

She wasn’t even invited…just took it upon herself to arrive. She loved the attention…wonder how she travelled here? Apparently she came up from London to Glasgow on a train, with a cardboard sign about climate change :joy:

I used to worry for her mental health when she was younger but she seems to have come through that now…whether you like her or not she does a good job keeping the issues to the forefront

I’m sure I read somewhere that she was on the spectrum for autism or Asperger’s? Not that it seems to be holding her back at all, she’s doing well for herself.

I think she should be invited to speak at the COP. After all it is her generation more than ours (Mine anyway) that will be having to live in what will be a dying world unless something is done and not just talked about what should be done.

Last time she had a pop at folk though, she didn’t come across that well…“blah, blah, blah” Not really attention grabbing is it! :joy:

I agree, yeah might be an idea.

This is true.

It would be good if they could all work together. :upside_down_face:

I don’t know Greta but I believe she has Aspergers syndrome, an illness that can cause sufferers to focus on some things too much.
Having said that, how many of her critics are doing as much to make the world aware that life on earth may disappear in the next 100 years.
I would like to say “Well Done” to that girl because she is doing more than world politicians have done for years & letting people know that good country economies will mean nothing when we have floods or hot temps killing the people who were more interested in money than life.
If you are an animal lover, just remember that it wont be just humans that die , it may also be the tiny creatures that would be able to evolve again , as the earth recovers from the damage that greedy humans have done!

The thousands of people attending COP26 flying in by private jet will put 13,000 tonnes of CO2 in the atmosphere, more than Scotland creates in a year. Bidens aircraft was so big it houses Marine 1 inside it. Then there is his 87 car motorcade that’s been flown in.

Hypocritical bastards all of them

Apparently this is COP number 26 … there were 25 before this and I’ve never heard of any of them.

Unfortunately Greta is not your friend, she is not the friend of your children or future generations. What she proposes would be great in a perfect world, but it will mean poverty and suffering for all future generations. Saving a planet is a ridiculous concept, and all Boris’s energies should be used to combat pollution and extreme weather events in the British Isles. Boris is not the PM of Russia and China, and nothing he can do will affect the climate on a global scale. But he can make Britain a better place to live by concentrating his efforts Nationally.

The London smog was not eradicated by putting pressure on Russia, China, or any other country, it was achieved on a local and national level. We do not have the influence, finance or power to find a global solution which is basically a local one to each country. We are all being lied to if you think that mankind can could possibly have any effect on global climate, but we can make Britain a much nicer place to live. Green policies will not put food on the table of the working classes and until Greta can offer realistic solutions she has not got you or your children’s best interest at heart, only the planet which will still be here long after we have gone.

Succinctly put @oldgreyfox. :+1:

Thanks Tezza, for us, I don’t consider this a global problem. Any pollution in Russia or China will stay in Russia and China (just like that London Smog) so it shouldn’t be our concern. I do think that, Putin especially, is well aware of the wool that’s been pulled over our eyes here in blighty. There are lots of things we can do here in Britain to make it a better place to live and not create poverty on a massive scale, but we must leave other countries to decide for themselves what is the best thing for them to do and not coerce or bully them.
