Greed and the obscenely rich - how much is too much?

You might be happy to cover the cost of the things they couldn’t be bothered to contribute towards. I prefer everyone to chip in to the common good.

Did I read that right? Any businesses? Hell , all those years I’ve been self-employed with a wee little business and paying my taxes.
It’s not fair! :anguished:

I’ve already explained my reasoning in loads of posts above.

No problems. Next time I do my tax return, I’ll let you pay it.

I’ve been self employed for many years too and have always paid my taxes. But I haven’t created millions of jobs worldwide and given millions to charities.

Stop showing off that you earn enough money to be able to pay tax.

So at what point do you think a small business who does pay taxes … should be exempt from paying anymore ?
As in profit (without taxes) begets personal wealth and begets more personal wealth.

And besides, Amazon, or should I say Bezos is not known for his generosity as an employer.
Who are you trying to kid. It’s okay if he wriggles out of paying taxes because he creates millions of low paid jobs with abysmally poor worker rights as long as he chucks a few dollars at some needy charity.

I can’t believe I’m having to write this to reason it out …

Haven’t you got that wrong?
According to your logic Dex isn’t filthy rich and probably isn’t earning much … not enough to qualify for no taxes at any rate.

Morticia, this is what I posted and it’s completely different to what you’re saying. I said it wouldn’t bother me. It obviously bothers you, that’s where the difference is. As with most things I just appreciate what I do have and don’t begrudge others for what they have. And as far as Jeff Bezos goes, no I don’t begrudge him for anything that he has as I’ve said before he’s enabled millions of people to have employment and he’s paying well above the minimum wage and if they want more money than that then go and find themselves another job or start a business of their own to see how easy it is to make millions. If people are upset with how much he makes, then don’t bother buying from them. I don’t so it’s got nothing to do with me.

Jeff Bezos ’s net worth clocks in at around [$164.8 billion], of which he’s reportedly given away [just $2.1 billion], or a measly 1%.

Bit cheaper than paying tax isn’t it.

Snap!

I’ll delete mine … :slightly_smiling_face:

Yup that’s the article I posted. And as soon as I read it I thought to myself, I wonder how she got so much money in the first place.

I admire you complacency if not your perspicacity.

Great minds Omah … great minds.

She has a 4% stake in Amazon.

I bet Dext gets a lot of people begrudging him for all he’s got and thinks he should give out more. And I would defend him if I saw anybody criticising him for what he’s got.

Yup I read that ages ago and thought how awful. I think I’ve read since that working conditions have improved. When I read it, I thought to myself, I wouldn’t work there and as I’ve said before it’s the people who buy from them who should be blamed. In the same way as we buy from places like China and other such places that the working conditions are even worse than what was written in that article.

That doesn’t tell me a lot, have you got an article of how she got the money to get a stake in Amazon in the first place.

It’s nice that you should do that wendeey and I’m sure the criticism would be water off a ducks back if Dex was worth a few hundred billion.

The mind boggles though how you’d defend Bezos and the obscenely rich to a homeless person by your criteria.

You’re making the mistake of bringing it down to a personal level. I’m not bothered about Bezos personally. I’m sure he’s a lovely cuddly caring chap.
He is but one human being amongst billions on the planet … and possibly the world’s richest man … and taken from a humanitarian viewpoint, given the state of the world and suffering, it seems a little unequal and unfair.
