Good morning to all, it’s a rather wet day in my neck of the woods, about 18mm much needed rain last night but as usual it’s feast or famine here so so no doubt there will be too much of it. At least it is much cooler, the heatwave seems to be over, low to mid 20s today.
Picked up my Christmas photos yesterday, a bit disappointing - they were too dark but overseas post deadline for Christmas finishes this weekend so I had to use them. Posted them this morning. Fortunately I have more leeway for domestic mail so I have reprinted some with a local but slower supplier.
Doubt I will be doing much today, have had a busy couple of days getting lots of little jobs complete including the Christmas cards so today is a rest day and keeping dry.
I was out early buying 3 litres of milk to last me over the weekend bought fruit and a few odds and sods as well as posting my cards. The rest of the morning was spent mostly on the phone chatting to friends who, like me, decided to spend the day at home.
Hope you all enjoy another day on the best side of the grass.
Another depleted order from Woolies today.$80+ refund.
Good.Hopefully having empty shelves and not being able to sell stuff will make them listen to the strikers in their warehouse.
In my excitement to welcome the new morning I forgot to mention that yesterday I received my first King Charlie coin in my change. I have seen one before but this is my first personal $1 Charlie coin. So exciting.
@Bruce, Lord of the Rings! It is nice looking coin.
Its the end of the 28th here, Thanksgiving was great. My daughters made wonderful homemade pies, stuffing, and squash Brussel sprouts. At the end of the day, thankful for my family, health and a means to support them. Hope everyone else celebrating had a great Thanksgiving as well.
Good morning all!
It’s still pitch black here at the moment although we are to blessed with full on sunshine and a sultry high of eight degrees, quite an improvement on yesterday.
Once again no work today so a quick trip into our rundown town centre to pick up some supplies and back home. Chilli jnr is a master craftsman when it comes to curries so he’ll be blending his various spices tonight, opening the can of coconut milk and off we go I shall be popping the poppadoms into the microwave, never an idle moment
Good morning everyone, looks like we’re in for a rainy Friday here. We’ve been having mild weather for the last few days but it’s going to get cold again.
Glad to hear your Thanksgiving went very well @LookingForward, I hope all our other US forum friends had a great feast too.
Any delicious turkey sandwiches for us?
A red sky this morning , Gary Barlow tickets go on sale this morning ,im hoping to get 3 , expect there will be a queue online so I will be lucky if I get any …
Went and watched Paddington in Peru last night ,enjoyed the evening and film .
Morning all – slightly warmer today but still grey and overcast
My brother rang this morning – the nursing home told him Mum is making progress and he should be able to safely visit on Tuesday, which is good news
I have yet to see a King Charles coin Bruce! Cash is being used less and less - I tend to use my cards unless it is to buy something which costs less than £5.
Good luck with the Gary Barlow tickets Eliza
Had a lovely meeting with “the girls” yesterday, as usual we were the last to leave and were still talking while the tables and chairs were being put away!
Neighbours rang last night to invite me out for dinner tonight but I have declined. Not been feeling 100% for the last couple of days so don’t think I would be very good company.
Think I will take it easy (easier!) today, the ironing can wait until tomorrow!
Good morning - We have sunny skies with a slight breeze blowing. Sounds good until looking at the outside temperature, which is 9ºC at 10.35 A.M. Might go for a walk outside even so. I could sweep up a load of leaves but think I’ll wait until a few more have fallen. It’s a never ending job otherwise.
The Nurse has been to change the Nephrostomy dressing. A bit of a trial but all done now.
Happy thanksgiving for yesterday LF, sorry about the late call…
A bit warmer today so It was shorts weather…still 3 degrees C though and had to do quite a bit of running to keep warm. I thought I saw a patch or two of frost through the wood, but apart from the piles of leaves everywhere the paths were dry and not too slippy.
Mrs Fox is due at the church hall later so I’ll taxi her down and save her the walk on her poorly knee although she is making good progress after seeing the physio on Wednesday.
Too early for the mile walk to the church hall though. I’ll while my time away doing sudoku puzzles and pottering about in the workshop, but it does get alarmingly cold in there…I certainly won’t be wearing my shorts…
Someone moved this continent in the night! Winds are blowing a blue streak and the temps had me head down in my dresser, tossing out tights and layers over my shoulder. Move over, Australia, I am headed your way! !
Glad to hear that your are squared away, @mart and Mrs. @OldGreyFox is having success with her physical therapy appointment. Did she learn anything from the scan?
We still have some coin dollars floating around but the only places one usually sees them is dispensed in change at car washes and road tolls. @Bruce, if I ever decide to have a coin minted, remind me to use an image before the age of jowiliness. That is a familiar condition, but I am not sure it is a word :rofl.
@Chilliboot Chili, I am sorry to read that you are not having the best of days . I am sure you will figure things out from here, and I am glad you are taking the news well.
Time to put all the accoutrements of Thanksgiving back in the cupboards and start hauling out the Christmas decorations. On the news last night, they were interviewing people in the airport about their holiday travels. My favorite, the most intelligent of the lot, said that he intentionally plans his yearly vacation to Cancun, Medico to avoid all of the hullabaloo of the season. He calculated with confidence that he breaks even every year by avoiding the costs of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hmm…he might be on to something… .
The Pilgrims, also known as the Pilgrim Fathers, were the English settlers who travelled to North America on the ship Mayflower and established the Plymouth Colony in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The holiday traces its roots back to 1621, when Pilgrims and Native Americans came together to share a feast and give thanks for a successful harvest.
now known as thanksgiving day
Although Thanksgiving may originally have had religious significance, the day has become a mostly secular holiday. Most Americans consider the holiday a day to gather and express their thanks through food, family, and football
Isn’t it about time the USA paid us back in the UK billions of dollars in thanks for being able to celebrate this occassion??
Oh, absolutely . While we are at it, a bunch of us are of Native American decent and feel slighted that a slew of English cruise vacationers dropped by in 1620, took up the guest room for a couple-hundred years, and still haven’t pitched in for groceries.
Let’s meet half-way, say Bermuda(?) to take care of those slights and have a nice little ancestral victimhood party. Bring cash, so we can all avoid credit card fees. .
But in return for the guest room we taught Native Americans how to speak English without charge. How to use a knife and fork properly, still something not yet quite managed. How to flush the toilet instead of using a pit. Just a couple of the hundreds of things we taught as well as how to dance properly instead of just Jigging around and up and down. Not to mention wearing proper clothes instead of coloured sack cloths
Actually it is so nice these traditions are still being inacted I love watching them
Scotland was just a few decades late to the party, slipping in once the muscle work was done. Apparently, many wanted to come sooner, but their wives kept putting it off to avoid the extra responsibilities of grimy shirt collars and cuffs.
(My first of many ancestors from Scotland was a minister/doctor who arrived in 1660).
Our lowest value note is $5 and the lowest coin is 5cents. I am surprised we still have 5c and 10c coins that because a lot of people throw them away or refuse them as change. We also have a $2 coin
Our notes are pretty though
If you ever tried to use a $100 note I think they would call the police!
The monarch will not be featured on the next $5 note apparently, also I am told that it is the only currency to feature a woman on every note.
I have to admit I find it irritating in US TV shows how Americans appear to swap the fork into their right hand and eat food with it. Even in Asia where they use a spoon and fork the latter stays firmly in the left hand. Perhaps it is only actors that do that?
Edit:
Irritating is the wrong word, it is just very noticeable is probably better.
