We’ve always done everything that needs doing ourselves because we had to really as we couldn’t afford to pay people when we were younger. We will both do painting, wallpapering, gardening. Hubby does all the car stuff, washing, tyre pressures, hoovering out etc. I will happily clean out drains, blocked sinks etc. I usually clean the oven.
We did pay someone to do some glossing of the side of the stairs and skirting boards in hall a couple of years ago only because hubby didn’t have time and although I volunteered he said I would get more paint on the fairly new carpets. That is the only time we have ever paid anybody to do work in the house. Oh, we do pay a windowcleaner.
