My first flight was also one of several flights in a helicopter in the army taking us long-range reconnaissance scouts to a military training area and dropping us off there. Later, aged 34, I had to enter a plane taking the whole family to Damascus. My baby daughter was apparently so scared that she was dirtying herself on the gangway. Changing her in the plane made some heads turn. Then there was a forced stopover on Cyprus because of a heavy thunderstorm and the pilot was saying: Guess we were lucky.
I was 14, going to Toulouse on a French Exchange trip.
We flew from Manchester to Heathrow first so it was a short, sweet introduction
