Film - the most recent you have seen?

Well she does get ‘some’ of her kit off doesn’t she? Recall reading a minor diatribe about how skimpy her undies were when in fact they have to wear ‘Bridget Jones’ big pants with nappies (or diapers as the article called them).

I watched Cloud Atlas last night and I’m conflicted about whether it’s good or not. It’s beautifully filmed and well acted especially Jim Broadbent who is one of my favourite actors but what’s distracting is the poor quality of some of the make up in the movie specifically the Caucasians in the New Seoul segment who have been given Asian eyes for some reason.
Also each of the segments are interesting vignettes in their right but I cannot see how they fit together although I paused the movie with 30 minutes left and went to bed so maybe all will become clear with a stunning revelation at the end, I certainly hope so because I understand that was the whole point of the book.

I’m willing to extend artistic license to avoid having to see Sandra Bullock in realistic NASA nappies.

Back to Gravity, I wasn’t at all interested in seeing it until it was Oscar nominated for Best Picture and I make appoint of seeing as many of the nominees as I can prior to the awards because it’s a more interesting experience if you’ve actually seen the films and I’m glad I did. I’ll grant you that Gravity is incredibly far fetched but it is a good story full of suspense and it’s visually stunning too.

The other night my son ‘boxed’ After Earth, purely as an exercise in curiosity he claims. He reckons he managed to watch the entire film in under 15 minutes and missed nothing of importance. :-p

He did something similar with Cruise’s Oblivion, although he says he watched just a little bit more of this one, but was still unimpressed. Let us just say that on both occasions he was glad that a) he had not spent good money on either, and b) he had not wasted too much time on them.

Both were, he says, merely vehicles for the two stars egos.

Excuse my ignorance but what do you mean by boxed?

Not sure that I understand ‘boxed’ either

We have a Sky+ box, hence when we record a programme we refer to it as being ‘boxed’.

Heidi, 4th time this week grand niece seems a little obsessed with this one :-p

I too was a little bored, watching Sandra scrabbling around in space making dreadful noises wasn’t Oscar material on my list! I thought it would have more of the other actors in it, the one close-up of the one who wasn’t George was of his head cleaved in two with obviously no brain inside it, probably why he did nothing but dance about singing! The end was very poor too, I imagine it was only the special effects which won it for them!

Next film will be “12 Years A Slave” I really hope it’s good!:frowning:

The book is quite harrowing Twiz if the film is half as good it will be great.

Larry Parkes in “The Jolson Story”.

Good grief - I did not know they had remade it! Did it look any good?

Seen it, and it is good … but … there are so many films based on the same which are much more harrowing. The only thing this film really has going for it is the way the guy was ‘enslaved’ and eventually released. The film would have made so much more impact had it been released donkey’s years ago.

As it stands now - in my mind - it is just common place - seen similar (and far better) and got the t-shirt.

Very atmospheric and scary.

I recently downloaded both series of “A Very Peculiar Practice”. Made in the 80s starred Peter Davison, Barbara Flynn and David Troughton and was one of the first series written by Andrew Davies (and basically made his reputation). It is so funny

I downloaded it from a torrent site but you can get it from YouTube

Love that film - Larry Parkes was ‘superb’

Downloaded The Book Thief this afternoon and just sat and watched it.
A very good storyline and well acted.
Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson were very good and the little girl who the story is based around Sophie Nelisse definitely has a great future ahead of her.
I recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet.

The irony of course is that the PTB would not allow this film to be made nowadays.:frowning:
