The George McKenna story. starring Denzil Washington . A True story , very like To Sir with Love ,
A bit of a toughie this one…
The dreamy/nightmarish monochrome approach is not to everyone’s taste, neither is the subject matter.
Not one for when you’re feeling down in the dumps, compelling all the same in an awful kind of way…
I really enjoyed that film, touching and very emotional, great acting.
Found an old Play For Today on the BBC i Player.’ Nuts In May’ with a very young Alison Steadman. Quite enjoyed it. Mike Leigh from 1976.
Blimey!
Yes I think I might remember it albeit vaguely. Was it set on a boat?
I could be getting confused with something else.
Shall We Dance - 2004 with Richard Gere, J Lo and Susan Sarandon
I hadn’t seen this in years, and so glad I found it again. The ending was
better than I remembered. I enjoyed it so much!

No. It was a camping holiday near Corfe castle. The couple arrive in a convertible Morris Minor. £10 for ten days stay on the campsite! They want peace and quiet. Another couple on a bantam motorbike arrive and start a fire to cook on - not allowed. A fight ensues. The couple move on quickly and find an open field to set up their tent and sing to a guitar. Very mid seventies!
Yep!
Thanks greengage, I looked it up. Definitely going to have to watch it! ![]()

This is my choice of viewing for this evening, just arrived yesterday…
Rather controversial when released back in 1970, still rated at 18 or X as was in the day. I was only eight back in that particular year so of course I didn’t get to see it at the cinema!
I was only about sixteen when it was released in cinemas so didn’t see it at the time. Having seen it since I can’t remember much violence to warrant an X rating. Donald Pleasance was a bit unlikely as a kind of Hillbilly fixer. Might pit it on my list for viewing again.
I think there was a decapitation during a scene towards the end of the film which might have tipped the balance back in 1970 ![]()
There were 2 or 3 violent scenes but not by today’s standards. It was on television recently and a lot was quite slow, but the really horrendous part was that the events did actually happen .
That looks a perty good film - maybe me gonna watch the rest of it!
I just watched Brooklyn It is an emotional roller coaster but I enjoyed it very much
It is on the ABC Ivew here so I don’t know where you would catch it elsewhere (BBC perhaps?)
I think I was too young when I first saw that film, I found it really traumatizing! ![]()
Yep, I empathise. I’ve only seen it once in my late teens.
There are certain scenes that stay with you…
