WE go most Wednesday"s with Orange 2 for 1. Obvoiusly it has to be something we want to see. The last movie was “Wild”, okay but not totally to my taste.
Next Wednesday will go and see “Mortdecai” with Jonny Depp, I like him as every part he plays is different,
Started going to the flix again in recent weeks and to begin with I found the size of the screen and surround sound quite alarming.
I’m now getting used to it (5 films so far) and tonight we saw Ex-Machina … Hmmmmmmm … disappointing.
LOVED ‘Whiplash’ … no it’s not anything like the T V series with Peter Graves … Lol
This film is one we all want to see again … especially moi, cos my dad was a drummer (evenings/weekends annat).
Not yet seen ‘Wild’ which may not be to my taste either. I enjoy those ‘being in the wilderness’ kind of films but get the impression that this may be slightly lacking.
‘Mortdecai’ is next week I think.
I’m not a fan of Jonny Depp but a friend who sometimes works at one of the film studios says he’s a really nice guy AND very wonderful in the flesh lol… she had no idea who he was when she first passed him at the sudio but was astonished by his looks !
Why didn’t u like ‘Ex Machina’ Rachel? I was just recommending to the kids, thought it sounded pretty cool …
Just watched two films the other night. Angela’s Ashes and The Magdalene Sisters. Bleak and grim viewing, but very true, which I like.
The Pianist - when it first came out…
It was a bit slow and kind of lacking somehow.
I spent most of the time wanting the chap to cut his beard shorter ! Lol
Special effects were good and wotserface (dunno her name) was very watchable … Lovely face. Reminded me of Sigrid Thornton.
The ending was unsatisfactory … not read the book
Watched ’ White Noise ’ with Michael Keaton last nite.
Not seen much of him lately, but this may be his year, as he was nominated for BirdMan for best actor at the Oscars, which we watch every single year, as both my Dad and I are massive film lovers.
Excellent film - Jodie Foster is a really good actress.
I didn’t like that one at all - language aside - I found it rather boring.
I have the original BBC 6 part series from the 1980s. Is this new version as good ?
Couldn’t sleep and just watched Of Mice and Men. Great film.
I am afraid my Jodie Foster film-a-thon is continuing. Tonite we saw her film ( which she also directed ) with Mel Gibson, called ’ The Beaver '. Ray Winstone’s voice was just perfect !
Loved it, so did my Dad.
Gibson portrays Walter Black, a man in the depths of severe depression who has already tried numerous forms of therapy without success. After being tossed out by his wife Meredith (Jodie Foster) and making a botched suicide attempt in a hotel room, Walter experiences a breakthrough from a discarded beaver hand puppet. Through the puppet, Walter talks to himself — and eventually the rest of the world as well — in a Michael Caine-like Cockney accent. The puppet restores him to functionality, repairing his marriage somewhat and even turning around his business, a prosperous toy company, inherited from his father, that Walter had been running straight into the ground.
The beaver does more than bring Walter out of his shell. It has a salutary effect on the movie as a whole, injecting some badly needed lightness and humor into a potentially grim subject. (“I understand if some of you are skeptical,” the beaver tells Walter’s employees at a staff meeting. “I’ve got a middle-aged man’s left arm stuck up me bum. Why wouldn’t you be?”) The movie’s portrayal of mental illness resists easy Hollywood clichés. We’re never given a definite cause for Walter’s condition, though his father’s death appears to have been a trigger point. Kyle Killen’s script never deludes itself into thinking that the puppet is anything like a permanent cure. Indeed, Walter becomes unstable and violent, and the beaver becomes a malign force late in the film and takes on a menacing appearance. It leads to a fight between Walter and the beaver that must be the weirdest such scene that Mel Gibson has ever taken part in. (A Mel Gibson movie just isn’t complete without his being beaten to a bloody pulp, and the fact that he’s doing it to himself here just fits with his self-flagellating tendencies.)
Went to see ‘Most Violent Year’ but I’m afraid I haven’t a clue what it was about cos I kept nodding off … lol
Woke up towards the end and was irritated watching the woman not being able to stand up properly in the snow!
Didn’t realise the bloke was the guy with the beard in Ex Machina
Oh and my friend wanted to know why, when he looked Italian or something with thick black hair, was his chest free of hair.
Well he probably had it waxed didn’t he
And … yes … he did look good
I’m going to see Into the Woods tomorrow … taking my 8 year old granddaughter so she can hold my hand if I get scared !!
Ooooooo … Hope you’ll be OK
I watched a bit of Sharknado 2: The Second One.
What a load of crap! Sharks were sucked up in tornadoes and were raining down onto the streets, landing smack on top of people if they weren’t careful, on tops of buildings, or making their way up stairs inside buildings (yeah, don’t ask) and were mostly swiped with chain saws or rotating saw blades, or swords, or snow shovels.
It was beyond stupid. And no, I didn’t wait for the end.
I thought it was. Good actors - Joanna Lumley, Stephen Fry, Kate Beckinsdale. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Went to see ‘Pride’ with Bill Nighey and Imelda Staunton - based on true story of a gay/lesbian group who supported the miners in the 80s strikes. I’m very fond of Bill Nighey.
Struggling to work hard today so I’m going to watch a damn good Zombie film after I finish off coding a shop. Nothing like blood guts and gore to put a smile on my face.
