A good pork fried rice is delicious: lots of eggy bits and bean sprouts! But most restaurants put in too much pork; properly the meat is supposed to just another ingredient, not the main one. That’s what I ordered in for dinner the night before my move.

Oh I love all the beansprouts, egg and prawns, just that pork with pink bits all round the edges.

I’m getting hungry, maryl!

I was going to post the same actually Eileen. Remember, I am the one here who never has an appetite so you must be starving.

With the time lag it’s only 2:45 pm, so I have a long wait till dinner !

Blow the time, have two dinners today

Ok folks - this is my main meal today. Spicy Pork Pilaff. Perhaps I can interest others in trying this recipe too.

Slice and onion and fry (in butter - has to be because you’ll need the flavour. As Onions soften begin browning add 1 Lb (Diced) pork and fry until pork cooked through (approx 4 - 5 mins). Scoop out pork and onion with slotted spoon leaving as much butter in frying pan as possible - place in casserole dish or slow cooker. To the butter add 1 mugful of long grain rice and fry until all butter is absorbed. Add 1 Pt stock, 3 Tbls Soy sauce and some curry powder to the rice. Bring to boil. Pour stock and rice over pork and onion in casserole dish and cook in oven or slow cooker until all liquid absorbed by rice. Approx 20 - 30 mins before serving add quantity of (frozen/defrosted mixed veg and stir through thoroughly). Bon Appetite!!!

I love going abroad and trying new dishes from the countries we have visited, cannot say I always like them but always willing to try new things.

Back home usually stick to chinese or indian

Visited my butcher yesterday to restock my freezer with meats. Apart from Chicken and Pork, I now have 2 Kangaroo steaks and 2 Zebra steaks. Will look forward to cooking and eating those over the couple of weeks.

The casserole dish sounds very tasty, Uncle Joe; might try that, but will pass on the kangaroo and zebra! Not a big meat eater anyway, mostly seafood, fish and chicken.

Kangaroo and Zebra steaks, in fact most ‘safari’ meat is a very healthy option as there is no fat on the steaks - just good wholesome solid meat. The way I cook it its NEVER TOUGH!!! because I make a marinade and soak it in that overnight before I cook it. The meat is so tender that sometimes its impossible to pick up on a fork as it just crumbles.

Joe, thats how I like my meat nice and tender but top chefs (idiots)say the taste has gone out of it when it is done like that.

Depends on what its marinaded in - have my own ‘special’ marinade

Come on uncle Joe  don’t keep us in suspense give us the recipe.
I would use a standard game marinade of red wine/olive oil/juniper berries/black pepper/bay leaf/ orange peel/garlic/thyme or rosemary.

Worcester sauce, Soy sauce, Balsamic vinegar, Honey, and a glass of Port.

Thank you that sounds good Uncle Joe  bet it makes the meat nice and tender.

I love to cook, and have lots of different marinades, herbs and spices. All I’m short of is a cauldron!

Seriously though, I adore Indian food, and I do regularly make my own Madras curries, as that’s the hottest I can enjoy. I like Chinese food very much as well, but for the life of me I can not eat pasta.

I’ve not read the whole thread, but I do like hot chillies. However, when they make your mouth feel like you’ve been at the dentist, then I can’t enjoy it. My brother will eat hot chillies raw, till his forehead is pumping in sweat. That can’t be normal!:lol:

Oh, when you break out in a sweat, that is a GOOD dish… Indian, Thai, Chinese!! But while I love really spicy, draw the line at habanero peppers; too hot even for me.

Hiya Dandysmom. Didn’t think anybody would still be online this time of night!

I’ve never tried habanero so can’t comment, but I really do love a hot Indian curry. Never known a Chinese dish to bring me out in a hot sweat, but that may be because I have a high threshhold for hot food.

Hi, Mollie, I’m in the States, 5 hour time difference, just about 9:30 pm here. I have a high heat tolerence myself, but a kung pao chicken with a lot of unseeded hot chilis can give me a sweat. Do you like Thai food… some good hot dishes there also.
