Shall we deal with them one at a time Annie?

I think we should…I just read your post a couple of times and am now trying to formulate a reply! :017:

Okay swim…Green energy is there because we shut down all the coal fired power stations before we found an efficient alternative, although most of our power is generated using gas fired power stations…See here…

Today’s electricity is coming from Ccgt, Combined Cycle Gas Turbines…Isn’t that a fossil fuel? We are actually sending some electricity to France because some of their nuclear power stations are down for maintenance.
As you can see wind production is pathetically low, and we are producing as much as wind using coal. Solar is faring a little better but is no where near supplying the countries demands. Bearing in mind that this is summer and demand is low.
Concerning deep coal mining…Here in South Yorkshire (Hatfield Main and Thorne/Moorends) we have/had the deepest coal mines in Britain, and the disappear under the north sea going ever deeper, but start to resurface again in Germany. Go west and north from here and the coal seam returns to the surface in Tyneside and Derbyshire.
There have been experiments carried out at a secret place in Derbyshire to bring coal to the service without the need for miners.

I agree Donkeyman, but 40% of £100 is £40 but 40% of £6000 is £2400…Most people are going to be struggling with that.

it would be a waste of my time and yours OGF.

We can always rely on foxy posting stuff which is thought provoking and which helps galvanize one’s own position, even though one has learned not to try to take him to task since it would involve banging one’s own head against a brick wall but making no headway (pardon the pun) :joy::joy:

@OldGreyFox , Yeah, you are right ,The higher the price goes, the more
the levy becomes !!
Putin has played his ace, unless a country has independant energy suplies,
( most of europe ?), then they are caught in the web of the global pricing
system, this means they are at the mercy of the market !!
Unless the system relents and reduces the price, then the capitalist
system will feed on itself untill it destroys itself ?? You know what that means !!
Putin could’nt win the war but he has destroyed capitalism( l hope ) !!Regarding ourselves l think we should just make provision for keeping warm this
winter without using the heating at all and using only the minimum of
electricity by possibly using a parafin heater or similar to keep at least one
room warm and keeping well wrapped up !!
I know this can be done because we did it after WW2 !!
Your feet need to be well protected the most if l remember correctly ??
It can be done !! :+1::+1::+1:

If you were her, would you refuse it?

I’d like to shove one, too … steak and kidney … :pie:

My OH has spent hours this summer chopping wood to kindling and small logs for burning. For months now I’ve had to take a carrier bag with me when I walk the dog in the forest, I fill it with fallen Pine Cones, when they are dried out they make great fire lighters and smell wonderful. Hopefully we will have enough soon to last us for about 6 months or so. I love an open fire but not so much the clearing it out in the morning and restarting it, BUT, it will have to be done. The fires heat the water as well so that’s another problem solved, no need for the electric to go on to heat the water. TV, Computer ect are no longer on Standby and everything is switched off at the wall if not in use, Lights are not a problem as we don’t like them on if we’re watching TV, and they not left on in an empty (of people) room anyway.

Yes I would. I couldn’t sleep at night knowing I was making all that money and people were having to decide whether to feed their families or heat their homes.

Raw, with blood and various flies hovering around it :joy:

I’m quite envious of your open fire…I never minded cleaning it out or starting it, when I lived up north. I would rather have a fire than central heating any day of the week. :fire:

Hi

The condescending Chancellor has really annoyed me.

His contribution today has been don’t rely on the government and look at ways of reducing your fuel costs.

These people have no idea of real life and think we are idiots

Well, he’s partly right. There’s no use in relying on this government, as they’re useless.

I have an open fire in the winter and eventually it just becomes another job clearing it, so you get used to it!
I find them much warmer, so much so that I leave the lounge door open and the heat goes up to the bedrooms, so it is pleasant up there too.

I wonder how many people will end up trying to get their fires up and running? Apart from the obvious fire (and poisonous gases escaping through poorly maintained chimneys into bedrooms) hazards, the concept of green energy will go completely out of the window. Smog, smog, wonderful smog.

I think you are right Dex! We all want an easier life a.s.a.p but there will always be a cost to getting what we want, like global warming, huge growth of populations & one has to question why viruses are dramatically on the increase.

By the way, I don’t blame anyone who decides to get their fires up and running again. If I was in my old house I’d have booked the chimney sweep by now, and risked getting a fine if it turned out we were in some kind of protected clean air zone, as I suspect we’d still be quids in compared to the fuel hikes.
