That black liquid, if I am honest, I do not even know what the main ingredient that makes it black is.
Looking up Stout ingredients just now I find that Roasted, Unmalted Barley gives it it’s blackness.
I always preferred it to bitter or lager. You are guaranteed a good Guinness anywhere I think.
You can enjoy a Guinness with cider a Black Velvet or a Guinness with lager,a Black and Tan.
Ahem,I would advise everything in moderation though.
I detest Old beer, Partly because of this I had never tried Guinness until recently when BWS had cans on special for $3 each.
Bought one can just to try. It was OK , drank it all so it couldn’t have been too bad but didn’t enjoy it enough to want to try it again.
My kids all drink exotic beer like “50 Lashes” but personally I am quite happy with run of the mill beers like Tooheys New or Carlton Draught. My son in law loves trying boutique beers but speaking generally they are too sweet for me.
I’m ok with USA brews.
I sipped Schlitz in the long ago. Usually, a Red Bud or Coors Banquet and Miller Golds now.
I like those lil shorty bottles. Not so crazy for the Lites. They seem to go bad Taste for me.
I associate stouts with winter, in fact Youngs Winter Warmer is only sold in the winter.

I remember about 40 years ago draught Guinness ran a campaign that popularised it as a summer drink too, serving it well chilled.
I don’t know anything about how these drinks are made.
My Grandmother had a bottle of Mackeson’s Stout every day of her life. Winter or summer.
My father died of Cancer when I was 8 & spent many years in & out of hospital. It was the early years of radiation treatment & he had to travel to Cambridge for that. Whilst there, each evening, they were offered a bottle of Guinness or Mackeson etc, as stout was viewed as a way of helping to keep iron levels up. Google suggests pregnant mums were also offered a bottle each evening too.
A glass of red wine keeps me going.
What about imperial stout?
I used to enjoy a couple of pints of Porter. Similar to stout but not as bitter, and perhaps slightly lower alcohol content.

I got hooked on stout because it was cheap,Our local brewery made a good one for 10d in the pubs for a pint.Something like the national keg bitter Double Diamond would be 2/6.More than twice the price.
Did Double Diamond work wonders?
So there was Sue walking down the aisle very slowly all dressed up for the big event . There stood I waiting patiently for her. Eventually I said to her , hurry up they have 4 cases of Stella larger for the price of 3 in the sale
Back in the 40s and 50s my dear old Mum was told by her Doctor to drink Guinness every day which she did. I remember it well because I had to go to the local offy to get it for her. Plus take the empties back to collect the refund. It used to amuse me when she would put the poker into the fire then into the Guinness to warm it up. She lost her husband, my Dad in 1947 and her son, my older brother in 1954. No wonder she would like drink now and then…daily!
