We were next door to that.
besoeker you were NEXT door to that fancy place? wild. d00d said bonny wee hoose and i had to read it twice. monday coffee and poking the forum again
That we did. We lived on the farm. I knew the laird quite well and we conversed mainly about wild birds. That was a long time ago when I was school age. Now the house is mainly used for posh weddings.
besoeker hang on you lived on the farm and knew the laird?? is that another secret code or just the fancy guy next door. talking wild birds with him sounds nicer than driveway talk. posh weddings in that place now is wild. still on monday coffee poking the forum
A Laird is a traditional Scottish term for the owner of a large, long-established landed estate. That’s he was - Laird of Kinclune. It was/is a pretty remote place and we often had snow in the winter. For me I had to travel six miles to get to school. Quite often I went by bike. More Scottish information for you !!
besoeker oh so laird aint a secret code its just the fancy landowner. kinclune sounds made up again i keep getting lost with these names. six miles on a bike in the snow to school is wild. i barely make it past the mailbox most mornings. leftover sandwich and still poking the forum
Kinclune is the real name. That’s where I lived until I went to Edinburgh. And I did use my bike but not usually when it was snowing. There was a school bus for that. Life has moved on. Climate has changed within my lifetime. We rarely get snow here - the last significant fall was about seven years ago. As at happens our family was here from Georgia then and we had the sledge out with the wee lad. The dog didn’t like it.
besoeker wait kinclune IS a real place?? i keep thinking these names are made up. school bus in the snow makes more sense than what i was picturing. that dog on the sledge looks miserable ha. georgia folks again you guys get around. sandwich is gone and im still poking the forum
Now yer Talkin ![]()
Yes, miserable but he was a smart fellow - Collies are. Kinclune was quite a big farm. A lot of it was arable, some cows milking us on the farm, and a LOT of sheep. Around March time was the lambing and we had a lambing shepherd for that. He stayed in our house for that period. And he was a pretty good fiddle player.
besoeker hang on a shepherd lived IN the house for lambing?? that sounds like a movie. collies being smart i beleive tho. arable cows AND a lot of sheep my head cant keep the livestock straight. and fiddle player is that the same as violin or another secret code. cracked a bag of chips and still poking the forum monday afternoon
Ho ho, not exactly …
The Shepherd went up the hills to do the lambing then came home here that my mother cooked for home ! The arable farm was potatoes, turnips and the like. And yes, the fiddle is a violin but we Scots usually used it for Reels and Speys and the like. And I miss the collie. Now we have a Springer Spaniel and she is attached to my wife,
besoeker oh so he went up the hills then came HOME for dinner that your mother cooked, not like he moved in. potatoes and turnips i can kinda picture. reels and speys is that dancing or another secret code. and that dog in the picture is the springer? she looks attached alright. leftover chips and still poking the forum monday evening
Yes, the shepherd did move in for about a month for the lambing. The reels are Scottish dancing - more of the Scottish stuff!. The Springer Spaniel is a gentle soul, she rarely barks, and she never bites. And she loves the postie who is a lady. Abd today I had a cheese and croissant for breakfast but I like chips (French fries) too.
besoeker wait so he DID move in for a month?? i had that backwards. scottish dancing then not a secret code, good. soft dog that likes the lady mail lady sounds nicer than the ones that bark at the garbage truck. and hang on chips means french fries over there?? around here chips is the bag kind. tuesday coffee and still poking the forum
The wee dog loves the mail lady - of course she her a when she cones here. The mail here is delivered to the door, not to the mailbox as you guys have. And yes, we get the chips in a bag. The “chippy” here is usually fish and chips wrapped in paper. In olden times they wrapped it up in used newspaper. Not very hygienic…
besoeker hang on the mail comes RIGHT to the door and the dog gets something?? ours just stuffs the box out by the street and drives off. and a chippy is a place that wraps fish and fries in paper?? i thought chips was the bag kind, now its fries AND a shop, my head cant keep up. leftover tuesday coffee still poking the forum
Yes, I know your mail gets yours at the street. Ours is usually posted into the front door unless it is too big and that’s when the lady knocks on our door with the main - and the dog.
