For some reason I haven’t determined yet, Fox News and other of Trump’s base is going after Taylor Swift. Trump himself hasn’t followed suit, as of this article. If he does, the author of the article says it would be a big mistake because Taylor Swift’s US adult base is bigger than the number of people who voted for Trump in the last election. The question remains about whether they’ll vote.

This is the kind of debate Trump likes, filled with nonsense, nothing to do with the issues, puts him with celebrities and gets his name in front of lots of people.

Former President Donald Trump’s allies have recently begun attacking the pop star Taylor Swift.

If Trump decides to personally criticize her, he’s in for a world of trouble.

Her US adult fan base is nearly as big as the 2020 presidential vote count and unafraid to “go low.”

If former President Donald Trump and his campaign choose to attack Taylor Swift, he’ll have to defeat a far scarier and more dangerous force than President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign: her scorned fans.

After weeks of Republican media pundits and a former presidential candidate vilifying her, going as far as saying she’s a Defense Department psy-op asset, it seems all but certain Trump will jump into the fray soon after Rolling Stone reported one of his confidants predicted a “holy war” against the pop sensation.

Should he go after her, it may be the biggest mistake of his 2024 campaign up until that point, needlessly injecting himself into negative discourse with little perceivable way of succeeding.

That is, of course, because Swift’s committed fan base is just as — if not more — supportive of her as the MAGA movement is of him.

Her following also appears to be even larger in the US than Trump’s.

A Morning Consult survey from March estimated that 53% of US adults considered themselves Swift fans, an astoundingly large support base.

This is an interesting article and gives a possible explanation of why Trump following idiots (that is a tautology) are going after Taylor Swift. In short, Swift is a white woman who does not follow the marry young / have children / obedient to men / be housewife model that the US conservative christian sect see as the role for women. She is outspoken against right wing policies, she promotes women being powerful and successful and she herself is unbelievably successful and rich. That is why maga men hate her. She is better than them and challenges their believes. Good on her.

In contrast to a megastar like, say, Beyoncé, the conspiratorial right seems particularly incensed at Swift because she does exemplify at least some markers of “their” culture: she spent much of her early years in Tennessee, got her start in country music, initially sang about her longing for love and a traditional relationship, and is currently dating a white football player who also reads on first look as the golden boy of a Republican family.

You know who has fewer markers of “their” culture as defined by this article?. . . Donald Trump.

He was born in NY to a rich family, been married 3 times, identified as a Democrat for many years, isn’t devoutly religious, refused to go into the military, wasn’t a football star. . . .

That article was a bit of a mess, played on stereotypes, was mostly about deepfakes, then got lost about political identity. There may be some truth in that, but it would need to be explained better.

I agree about the poorly written article but at the core is the attempt to discredit Taylor Swift through any means - criticism, fake videos, conspiracy theories, etc. These are the actions of members of the right wing, evangelical America that also enabled the anti-abortion legislation. Trump leverages this large group even though he hasn’t got a religious bone in his body. And they are a deeply dangerous group - racist, misogynist, armed to the teeth and truly believe in their notion of the “great awakening” (end of the world and their ascending whilst everyone else burns). Scary.
