Thank you Minx
I was born and brought up in Hampshire but never had much of the accent. People tell me I sound a bit like the Queen.
I have a Hampshire accentā¦I also have a man friend who is from Hampshire, his accent is so broad, I canāt understand it and Iām Hampshire Born and bred, although my mother was Scottish.
Liverpool is another accent I have a job understandingā¦
Iām from Barnsley, and I have the accent, so I can authoritatively confirm that.
LOL This is something people canāt figure out about me. I do talk with an accent, however itās muddled. I was raised in Texas, but left when I was 17. Then I lived in California for 10 years. Then I lived in Louisiana for around 10 years. Then my wife an I settled in Alabama where I spent 14 years. Now I live in Denver since 2015. People find it impossible to place may accent because it comes from varied life experience, and I have a tendency to adapt to the way a culture speaks. I think this comes from people in California making fun of my country accent when I first moved there.
Every time I hear a Barnsley accent it reminds me of crumpets.
A strong accent?
Nae, I wouldnae say so!
How about Barnsley chops?
I have never experienced them, they donāt really play a prominent role in Barnsley life. Not that Iām saying crumpets do.
Neya ah dooant think ah av eur strong accent - all Yorksha fowk call liā uz
Youāve reminded me how my dad used to use the word ācallingā (the āaā pronounced as in the word āhavingā) to refer to the word talking or speaking.
My dear wife is from the south. People here in UK love it. We have been married 22 tears now and some of that has washed off on me - and vice versa. Our family were over for Christmas and the distinction from them compared to my wife is markedly different.
Brilliant
Yep. Brilliant!
