Disproved: The truth about SECRET Coutts memo

You don’t have to have anything to hide. You may have opinions or preferences that your Bank don’t like.

Ditto. Confidentiality is the banks priority.

This is not true .
People can live overseas and still hold a British bank account .
If they have never closed their account it will carry on as per usual .
I have held my British bank accounts throughout my life when I have lived all over the world . I also have bank accounts in three other countries so when I visit I can use them

The banks and CEO’s think they are untouchable and hold the power to cancel a person for any reason they deem suitable. If this had happened to anyone on this forum you would have had to suck it up, possibly lose your business and try to find another bank that would accept your application to open an account. They picked on the wrong bloke with Nigel Farage, and they deserve everything that is coming their way.
There is talk that Sunak wants to reinstate the Post office as a national banking establishment to make it easier for the elderly, people who deal in cash, and people who don’t want to be under the thumb of these massive global banking institutions. I would certainly change to them.

Yes you can Muddy, but they’ve shut all the branches down just lately and it makes them almost as bad as the banks for talking to a person face to face. In our village if you want to talk business to the post office counter staff half of the customers in the spar shop will be listening in…

Banks are a utility service and every one has a right to have one. A human right must have.

Why you should say no to getting a smart meter - The Telegraph
Smart meters are not mandatory and billpayers can refuse to have the devices installed, and you can do this indefinitely. However, energy companies can force customers to replace their current meter if it is deemed a safety hazard or is no longer functioning correctly. Forgot expensive.

She’s not telling us anything new. Nigel Farage said this has been going on long before he was debanked but people did not have the platform to do anything about it.

She just wants to have a dig at Nigel Farage.

This shows you are unaware of the events over the last couple of years. Many banks, Barclays and NatWest being the worst, have first written to overseas customers that their account will be terminated and then simply shut the account. This was the banks actively closing accounts. This was directly due to decisions of these banks following Brexit.

Indeed, nothing at all to do with NF. imo Just using Brexit as an excuse for sloppy mismanagement, clear discrimination. This is chaos created by politics, nothing united about EU.

Anyone living abroad cannot complain if they fail to act on advice.

Barclays is a particularly rubbish bank who CEO Bob Diamond was fired for fixing the Libor

All you have done here is demonstrate what you do not know. You seem unaware that the changes to the financial sector due to Brexit meant that most banks decided it would not be possible to service UK citizens living in the EU. Not politics but very specifically Brexit.
You also are unaware of how difficult it is to open a new bank account when you do not have a UK address. Your lack of empathy for tens of thousands of people is breath taking. (I’d laos note that the Feb 2021 article you shared was after the event for many. Perhaps you think they should have acted on advice not yet provided.)

I think it worth noted that there are two banking issues that are getting confused. The first is the very major and wide spread issue of being unbanked. This is people who do not have a bank account and may never have had a bank account. This is typically the very poorest people but may include people who have made a choice to not have a bank account. It is estimated that there are well over 1 million in the UK in the position. This is a massive issue - but not one that Farage cares about or has even mentioned.
The second is being debanked. This is when someone has a bank account and their bank, for various reasons, decides to close their account and terminate the banking services it provides. Often the bank makes this decision to due the account holder having financial problems - so problems of their own making. How many does this affect? Estimates are at about 1,400 a year. Not a massive problem.
BTW the average person in the UK holds 3 banks accounts. So don’t believe Farage when he says he is left with no bank account. And don’t believe Farage when he says he is doing this for the ordinary person who has their bank account closed. He has made up a crisis where none exists purely for his own publicity.
