Covid-19 Statistics

Thanks Bruce. That’s kind of you.

I’ll just include SA stats on the thread that I created. That way, this thread will not be cluttered.

I thought perhaps everyone might like to view the progress of Omicron in SA

UK busted the 50K again.

I’m living in a Corona hotspot with an incidence of 1412 and 614 infections per day, 5000 infections per week leading to a scarcity of ICU beds of which hardly any are left. These are yesterday’s figures for ICU beds available in my region (Saxony) after a lot of patients have already been flown out by the Air Force to other regions and way before the peak that’s expected for the Christmas week. Hardly any beds with staff and breathing apparatuses left.
And then there are so many people around me who simply don’t give a damn and don’t get vaccinated. Almost 50% are not vaccinated and don’t intend to.

@ Dachs, And what percentage of those in your Icu’s have NOT
had the vaccine Dachs ??
Info in UK suggests that there are NO double vaccinated people
recieving hospital treatment in the UK !
All the beds seem to be filled with NON vaccinated persons !!
Perhaps we should make a rule that people willfully refusing the
vaccine should be made to self medicate at home to save stressing the health system ??

I am really surprised by this, I would have thought that the experience in early 2020 when reports of European hospitals being overwhelmed would have persuaded the population that vaccination was the way to go.

It was certainly the experience in NSW when the Delta strain got in, now we are close to 95% double dosed, high vaccination rates have let some states open up and abandon zero covid.

COVID-19 vaccination in NSW

NSW COVID-19 vaccination rate Total* (ages 16 and over) Total* (ages 12-15)
All providers – first doses 94.6% 81.4%
All providers – fully vaccinated 92.7% 77%

BTW 95 per cent of Canberrans (ACT) aged 12 and over are now fully vaccinated, that is the highest rate in the country

According to our “Royal” Institute (RKI) the current percentage of the unjabbed in ICUs is 70% the vast majority of whom are younger and middle-aged people and that of the double-jabbed is 30%. The reason for the latter is breakthrough infections because our booster programme has only just started and they’d got their second jab in spring which is too long a period for the vaccine protection to last.
That there are supposed to be no double-jabbed people in hospital in the UK has to be taken with a pinch of salt. Don’t know about AstraZeneca but as far as mRNA vaccines are concerned they work in the same way in many countries which means that their protection dwindles after 4-5 months which makes booster jabs inevitable.
One of the demands health insurance companies are making over here, too, is to make those refusing the jabs pay part of their treatment cost.

I’d have thought so as well but the situation was grossly misjudged and neglected both by the old and new federal and regional governments. Everyone was focussing on the general elections and the formation of the new government. No one wanted to convey the bad news of new restrictions.

Whoever may have thought that “things are done properly” in Germany, a country that used to have a rep for being well-organised will have to reconsider their opinion. If at all, that was a thing of the past.

Following Tuesday’s ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court and being depressed by the fourth wave and the low vaccination rate of just 68%, a lot of leading politicians from different parties had to make a U-turn and gave up their opposition to making jabs mandatory.

Apart from that factual lockdown for the unjabbed there is a bundle of accompanying measures also affecting those jabbed like mandatory testing on certain occasions, etc.
The country is being in chaos and is operating in emergency mode. Beware of getting seriously ill right now. Almost no operations in clinics are being carried out. The Air Force has been relocating Covid patients to other clinics and abroad. Severely ill patients are not being treated. It would be completely insane for anyone to come to Germany for the time being.

We are needing 30 million booster jabs by Christmas and time and again there’s not enough vaccines. Only now when it’s almost too late a joint effort is being made to change the situation but there’s also massive resistance by a part of the population who can’t be convinced with words.

@Dachs Seems that world wide there are none so blind as
those that WONT see. Dachs !!
BTW, UK Has achieved about 25 million booster jabs allready !
Probably accounts for the lack of vaccinated patients in
hospital so far ??

Heard a very interesting piece in radio 4 yesterday about how governments used specific techniques to try and control population behaviour patterns.

Worth listening to

It is all over our news this morning that the UK government has brought back some measures such as working from home and mask wearing in response to the Omicron strain. Plan B.

I read it Dex, but to go further I had to subscribe, what I thought is, as long as a person has Self Interest, that person can not be influenced externally.

Not sure about why you need to subscribe. You can sign up to BBC iPlayer free of charge and use that to log into the podcasts and other recorded broadcasts. That’s what I did earlier, and it worked just fine.

I meant subscribe without payment, the BBC on the tele is a bit suspect of late so, giving details and getting notifications on the “Web” box may be a step to far.
