COVID-19 - Omicron: 247,000 confirmed cases of the variant now reported across the UK

Of course they are Muddy…

The predictions are out by an absolute mile again.

No it isn’t - tests have gone up from 1 million to 1.6 million - just one other factor your ignoring

Agreed. My statistics professor taught us never to extrapolate beyond 10% either side of the data you have available because the margin of error increases exponentially the further you go from your data sets. I firmly believe the algorhythms being used to calculate these predictions are totally way out of line and need rewriting - QUICKLY!

I’m not sure why anyone worries about outdoor events. Chris Whitty admitted last year that the chances of catching Covid outside are very tiny. Disappointing that they are cancelling the New years eve in trafalgar square as that is probably a very safe way to celebrate. It’s indoor events that are the problem for spread.

I’m putting this here because it looks like the Omicron thread.

A scientist in Australia is saying that he’s convinced that Omicron is less virulent. Omicron still has a higher infectivity rate. He’s not advocating policy changes and still advocates for people to be wearing masks.

3AW is a right wing shock jock station who have never wanted lock downs or restrictions.Bear that in mind when you consider his opinion.

Some outdoor events want to make folks hug and stuff, that is why the outdoor events I wish to attend are cancelled where no one hugs, see, someone else’s behavior pattern, is changing my and many other none tactile pursuitists schedule.

Thank you! I’m not as familiar with non-US sources. I’ll keep the source in mind.

Is this a better source? Same scientist, same opinion. They’re both saying he’s Melbourne’s leading epidemiologist.

“Leading Melbourne epidemiologist says he thinks Omicron is ‘quite low on virulence’”

An increase of 34%.

If it’s not on the ABC (Australian) I don’t believe it and even then only sometimes.

IMO fine to hug if you have a negative test. The virus seems to be transmitting without the hugging though - how is that happening?

Thinking back to being of a certain age, it’s a cert, hugging is going on behind the scenes, trouble is, the virus likes front of stage.

I certainly hope it is but from what I witnessed yesterday, it’s still very scary. A pretty healthy looking young man at 10 am with a positive LFT test…a pale, obviously feverish young man with an uncontrollable cough at 3 pm. Let’s add to this: if you need advice and dial 111 you are likely to be hold for at least ONE HOUR. This is a treat-it-yourself virus with fingers crossed!

I’ve found statistics analysed by age and they are extremely worrying! You obviously haven’t looked in the right places!

Are you going to post those statistics Lindy?

Oh yes I have.

We are supposed to be up to 800,000 cases today. We only have <90,000

Serious illness down.

Deaths … down

You show consideration for others by getting vaccinated and wearing a mask and I’ll show you those statistics.

You just don’t want to divulge your information because I don’t think you trust it yourself.
