COVID-19 - Omicron: 247,000 confirmed cases of the variant now reported across the UK

Possible good news. So far, less people are going to the hospital with covid. However, the high spread might wipe out that advantage. Also, the people in the analysis were mostly under 40, so when the virus hits older people, the statistics could change. There’s still a lot of uncertainty, but this might be a bit of good news for some.

The jab’s ability to stop people from catching Omicron wanes after 10 weeks, according to the same study.

Omicron up to 70% less likely to need hospital care

I find you come across as quite unassuming, upbeat and modest (even when saying the most outrageous things!).

This link was sent to me by one of my American friends. It’s an interesting read and applies in the UK too, I think.

The American Institute for Economic Research (AIER) is a libertarian (right-wing) think tank.

AIER statements and publications portray the risks of climate change as minor and manageable, with titles such as “What Greta Thunberg Forgets About Climate Change”, “The Real Reason Nobody Takes Environmental Activists Seriously” and “Brazilians Should Keep Slashing Their Rainforest”.

The institution has also funded research on the comparative benefits that sweatshops supplying multinationals bring to the people working in them.

COVID-19

AIER issued a statement in October 2020 called the “Great Barrington Declaration” that argued for a herd immunity strategy to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. It was roundly condemned by many public health experts. Anthony Fauci, the infectious disease expert appointed by the White House, called the declaration “total nonsense” and unscientific. Tyler Cowen, a libertarian economist at George Mason University, wrote that while he sympathizes with a libertarian approach to deal with the pandemic, the declaration was dangerous and misguided.

AIER paid for ads on Facebook promoting its articles against government social distancing measures and mask mandates.

AIER is not for me, then … :018:

Personally, I think that debunking something by referring to it as ‘Right Wing’ and moving on, is not a satisfactory conclusion to various theories and observations that people don’t agree with.
Just one more reason why I think we are being manipulated and lied to by the establishment.
There are just too many of these accusations and alternative theories by some very respected scientists and journalists for them to all be wrong or not contain some element of truth.

Volunteers giving people jabs on Christmas day, even expecting folks would turn up when they should be at home with their families. Not even Tesco opens on Christmas day!
If this doesn’t remove all doubt that the government are up to summat devious, you want your bumps feeling!

And for all those who believe this stuff…Wanna buy a motor, I’ve got just the thing for you…
Honest John

OTOH, not all religions and not all people celebrate Christmas Day.

And they probably wouldn’t turn up for a jab either Dex…
:mask:

Amen to that.

Anyway, I agree that there’s something seemingly afoot with all this.

A bit too pushy for my liking Dex…

This is true. I have family here as a holiday meet-up and we’ve done so for as long as I can remember as a father of four. I tend to feel for those true observant Christians caught up in all of the commercialism which seems to have evolved and now revolves around the holiday period.

Am sure I’ve mentioned this before, but when I was a classroom teacher I played the b’ah humbug card by holding a “normal” maths lesson on the penultimate day of winter term. When questioned why we weren’t watching dvd’s like other lessons, I pointed out that most of them (the pupils) don’t believe in God and indeed don’t celebrate other religious festivals so why bother with this one.

One pupil thus asked…“What’s Christmas got to do with religion?”

Kinda proved my point!!

PS- I did explain, using words like “mass”, “Christ”, “Saint” etc, but they still didn’t fully get it. But they were only about 15 years old, so what’s new?:joy::joy:

Anyway, sorry about the digression. No doubt this’ll be removed and our enlightened and progressive leader will find yet another devilish restriction to place on my account.

I totally agree Annie, which must be a first. We don’t react in the same way to the common cold or perhaps Influenza. which are equally problematic and in the case of influenza life threatening, particularly to the old,

they are planning to treat more people from home.
