Coronavirus

Come on Boris, do the proper thing…

Say no more…

That’s surprising that Israel has so many cases relative to others on this list. The country has a small population and massive security at the borders.

Thankfully my brother and his family who live in Lombardy are still safe. They have been isolated for a couple of weeks, he is 81 and his wife 75 so they are at the top of the high risk table. Their daughter, SIL and grandson(17) live with them so they are getting help from them. It’s very worrying when you see the big rise in victims every day.

My dental check up for next week has been cancelled.
They told me one of their dentists has had to self-isolate.
I have remade if for June, and hope the situation is safer by then.

Also, visiting my vet now, we have to phone reception from our car and then the vet will come out and escort us in for the appointment. They said it is to avoid sitting in a crowded waiting room. They’ve also put hand sanitizers all round the walls now.

My son’s lady love is a nurse at our local hospital, and she said tonight that she has got to go in on her day off tomorrow to do a course on caring for Covid 19 patients on ventilators. I hope she stays safe at work.

The most frightening report I’ve read tonight …Breaking News / Sky Corovirus They Call It The Acopolypse …which puts paid to anything Boris any team believe I’m afraid although I desperately want to believe them .

I can’t open that link Zuleika. A message comes up saying that address is not understood.

Oh Mags :frowning: that is concerning for you . I hope they stay safe…

Thank you Meg, all we can do is hope they will be safe.

You’re too quick for me Mups I’m going to delete the link .
Read Sky News Breaking They Call It The Apocolypse .Sky News Chief reporter on the spot in the hospital .
This is so horrifying you might not want to .

Oh, ok. Thank you.

I saw the news report. It’s scary stuff listening to the doctor saying this is not just pneumonia but a severe pneumonia.

When I read about what it does to the lungs a few weeks ago I realised then how awful it is. I posted the link here. It attacks the tissues and then the tissues die and fall into the lungs creating the infection. That is why it is so hard to treat. They need to stop the viral process to stop the pneumonia but its relentless.

California evening news… today.

The governor went on the news today and said he expects that 50% of the population, of California, will become infected by mid June. Holy mother of God, that’s 20 million people.

I had to cross the border today to get my meds. While there I noticed that there were no lines at the markets. I was pleasantly surprised that there was a lot more food available than the TV news is saying. Yes, most of the soups and canned goods were sold out BUT, there was still enough to make the trip worthwhile.

Like many places around the globe, the teens and 20 something, were out in force. The spring breakers from universities, still are absolutely packing the beaches of Florida.

Yeah, smart asses. get the virus and go home and hug mom and dad. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

Annie I’m amazed London hasn’t been locked down .
If this is what’s going to happen here we’ve had it !

We have only had 14 cases so far.

This morning the local ABC radio broadcast the 8.30 to 11am show from the broadcaster’s home office on the Southern Highlands, his producer was operating from her home in Wollongong.

Apparently this was a test run for if the pandemic gets serious in Wollongong and they have to shut the local studios. It was not an outside broadcast but a whole different set up with no one operating at the studios in Victoria St. Presumably lessons will have been learned.

A number of journalists are now operating from their homes rather than studios or offices.

ABC Local Radio is also our emergency broadcaster.

I believe the afternoon drive program at 3pm will also be broadcast from the presenters home.

They are taking this very seriously.

In a bi-partisan move, both democrats and republicans are urging Pres. Trump to go on a full “war footing” to combat the virus.

That move would free up more financial resources and give Pres. Trump wider leeway in using the military to help those most in need.

Currently, Congress is expected to pass a one trillion dollar relief package for: small business’ , people who can not pay their mortgages or rent, the airline industry (due to an 80% drop in ticket sales), and a check, possibly two checks, for $1,000 for every American adult who earns less than $75,000/yr. Pres, Trump is sure to sign that bill into law.

A bit earlier today because I shall be on the road soon.

I suspect that many people do not understand how percentages work.

When we are told that the death rate for coronavirus is 4.1% and that the death rate for the flu is .1 %, that means that the coronavirus is 41 times as deadly as the seasonal flu.

I do not mean to belittle anyone. Just trying to help those who may not understand.

Death rate in my area is just under 50%.

17 cases of which 6 have died

Yes, I’m sure that is true. However, the death rates are not calculated by small areas, but rather by the nation as a whole and includes people of all ages, not only the elderly.
