PM Scotty from Marketing gave a press conference this morning announcing the following measures:
[list]
[]An unprecedented, indefinite level-four travel ban is in place for the entire world. The travel advice for all Australians wanting to go overseas is “Do Not Travel”.
[]There is a ban on non-essential indoor gatherings of 100 people or more. Australians are still advised to stay away from non-essential outdoor gatherings of 500 or more.
[]Modelled on Singapore’s approach, the official advice is that schools will remain open.
[]There are new measures in place for visiting elderly relatives in aged care. In end-of-life situations, facilities will have the discretion to put very strict arrangements in place to enable family members to see relatives.
[]Scotty has urged hoarders to stop panic-buying, as grocery stores deal with empty shelves.
[]The chief medical officer has said a shut down of the country is not recommended by the experts
[*]Social distancing recommendations remain in place, including advice not to hand shake or hug

Putting this up about an hour earlier than usual because I am going out.
I am surprised that the mortality rate is getting worse rather than better, we were being told it was about 1% but currently it works out at 4%. I makes you wonder about the accuracy of the “Global Cases” figure.
Australia
Cases 452
Deaths 5
Recovered 27
Critical 1
Cases per Million 18
U.K.
Cases 1950
Deaths 71
Recovered 65
Critical 20
Cases per Million 29
USA
Cases 6509
Deaths 115
Recovered 106
Critical 12
Cases per Million 20
Global Cases 198426
Global Deaths 7987
Mortality Rate 4%
(Flu Mortality Rate 0.1%)
Social distancing is, naturally, an excellent recommendation. However, how does one maintain a 2 meter distance from others when on a city bus ? Let alone, God forbid, traveling on a crowded subway ?
For some of us, myself included, there is no other option than traveling on public transportation, in order to get vital meds.
Thanks Lindyloo. Let’s hope this thing will be over much quicker than expected, then we can all get back to moaning about the weather (no one I know has mentioned it for a couple weeks now :-p). It is nice to hear some good news for a change.
The Australian government has said today that they expect restrictions to remain in place for six months so I am not so sure about it being over quickly.
Perhaps I could have written my post better. I did not mean that I ride the subway in Mexico City. I do, however ride the crowded “light rail” system in San Diego when I go across the border from Mexico.
Why is it that every time I see Boris give a speech about Covid19 I get the impression that his heart isn’t in it and he’s going along for the ride against his better judgement…Is someone pulling his strings?
One of the best things about Covid19 is that it has overrun the tedium of Brexit and will be over and forgotten in far less time. Well, perhaps not forgotten.
Bearing in mind that the EU countries are worse affected by coronavirus than the UK is, perhaps we should remove ourselves and distance ourselves from the EU completely and as soon as possible.
The more we talk with them, the more likely they’re going to infect us!
My eldest daughter works in a cinema, she was about to change to pub work as the cinema kept asking her to do shifts that didn’t fit in with her kids needs.
Also she has very bad asthma, been hospitalised recently (tested for virus) and has to have her thyroid removed because it’s stopped working.
She was given the pub job but now they have closed. No idea if she’ll get any money from anywhere!
Our local pubs are offering cooked meal deliveries which is a super idea!
Had a letter from our council last week saying we had to pay £55. 50 for our garden refuse bins before last Friday or they won’t collect it.
Today, they’re not going to collect due to staff shortages. I wouldn’t mind but due to rain I haven’t put any out since about October!
Dunno why! I only got mine last August but still had to pay for a year. It’s 80% filled with ivy, brambles, bamboo, jasmine and bindweed from all three adjoining neighbours, makes me cross!
