Jesus! Are you serious?
Yes of course. How else do you think it came here? Many of the recently infected have been to Italy in half term. Those on the cruise were near Japan. Whatever is making you so astonished?! They are setting up testing sites at airports for a good reason. Did you think it were home grown?
Ah thanks Mups .
No, sorry, you don’t know your stuff.
The Mortality rate from flu is accepted as being 0.1%. (Google it)
Some figures for Covid19:
Total cases 95479
Total deaths 3285
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
3285/95479*100 = 3.4% mortality
Assuming these figures are on the high side and the mortality rate is only 1% that is still ten times greater than deaths from the flu.
Hi
Epidemiology.
Deaths from Coronovirus here in the UK, zero.
Deaths from Flu here in the UK 8000 a year.
Traffic Accident deaths and life changing injuries a year here in the UK 27,000 a year.
I do not worry about driving.
Children still have a fully active Thymus which produces TCells and is part of the autoimmune system. It diminishes in size and activity after puberty.
I agree!
People are panicking - unnecessarily in my opinion.
-
The shelves in our local ASDA are low on stock and the staff said people were buying even more than they did at Christmas.
-
Our University is currently home to hundreds of Chinese students. At one time they were often seen in town - now, they are either wearing invisibility cloaks or are confining themselves to campus.
-
The few Chinese who have ventured into town have - at best - seen people crossing the road to avoid them or - at worst - been spat at in the street. Some of them are people who have lived/worked here most of their lives.
-
Our local Chinese restaurants and Take Aways are losing trade.
I find it deplorable. Take sensible precautions - Yes - as you would to avoid any form of contagious disease. Panicking and/or being deliberately unkind to people - definitely not.
What do you think about large gatherings of people? I’m going to Butlins 70s weekend next week and the news is, saying avoid large gatherings.
I’m undecided whether to go or not as is another of the Golden Girls.
It was to be our joint 60th birthday celebration as we are all 60 this year.
If you had COPD and a heart issue would you still go?
I’m just wondering what others would do.
I intend to ask my doctor what he thinks also.
NSW Health Minister has said today that the out break cannot be contained.

LQ I can appreciate your concerns and share them.
I have been invited to a recital at my grandchildren’s school on Monday night , the 3 older children are all performing and though I would like to go I do so reluctantly being in a high-risk category with heart and lung problems and being 71. I already have a cough, breathlessness and increasing long episodes of P-AF when breathing becomes even more difficult. My healthy lifestyle makes it possible for me to keep active on most days.
I think if the situation is going to deteriorate it will do so rapidly and I am watching the health sites BHF and BLF for advice. When or if things get worse I will be reducing my contact with people and staying at home.
No I wouldn’t go. Don’t you look after your father to some extent too LQ? Supposing you picked the virus up and while it’s not showing symptoms in you ,youinadvertently passed it to him ?
Social gatherings are not necessary ,despite who you might disappoint health matters most .
Yes he is in the forefront of my worries. I’m already worrying each day I go up that I’m carrying the germ as there are people walking about with the virus that don’t even know it. I work for a huge company so I am among hundreds of people in my workplace every day.
Then I hear others saying people are worrying unneccessarily, it’s confusing.
I would saying Life matters most and unless the event is cancelled, it’s up to the individual’s commonsense.
When is this event happening LQ? Why not wait and see - if it’s decided the event carries too great a risk, it will be cancelled.
You can choose to shut yourself into your home…and I really don’t think the risk is that bad to justify that - or you can choose to live!
We all know the drill now about alcohol gel and wipes. I’d also suggest a mouth wash (I use Corsadol) a couple of times a day!
It is a worry for Folks with existing health problems LQ,and if You do decide to go on Your break will You and Your Friends be able to relax and enjoy it without worrying every time someone close to You coughs?..My SILs Mum & I were planning a few coach trips to York,Lake Distric etc’ in the next couple of Months, but She too has health prob’s so We decided to postpone booking them…This is NOT scaremongering…it’s just common sense…
Wasband 2 went to hospital with his piles and got tested for Corona virus, he had a bit of a temperature.
Today he had 3 bottles of antibac hand gel and some wipes delivered, free.
Not for his piles, he has COPD.
My daughter bought an all in one bright yellow waterproof boiler suit for dog walking as she gets soaked.
She caused a stir in Sainsburys when she called in for my prescription.
A friend who spotted her called out that she’s taking this virus thing a bit too seriously!
I am self isolating today because it is too wet to go out. Pouring down here.
To be honest I don,t think some GPs care much as to whether this virus will effect the elderly. I have been to my GP four times in the last month as I am continually getting blinding headaches but I am just being ‘fobbed’ off.
It,s a migraine, It,s a trapped nerve, It,s an inner ear problem.
“Just keep taking Paracetamol”
Are we suggesting this might be a designer virus…
They tried to polish off all the gay’s with HIV and it wasn’t very successful, could they possibly be wanting to clear out all of the ‘Dead Wood’ Survival of the fittest…It would be better than a war because nobody gets the blame……Just saying…
