Europe seems to be taking off. Take care.

I thought this little clip might be interesting to some.

A special repatriation flight carrying 161 Australians who had been stranded in the United Kingdom has landed in Darwin, where they will begin their quarantine process in the Northern Territory.

The flight, QF 110, is the first of eight such flights, which have been chartered to repatriate about 5,000 Australians in South Africa, Europe and India back home.

The 787 Dreamliner carried the passengers, including 22 children, nine of whom are infants, from London, and they will be transferred directly from a RAAF part of the airport to the Howard Springs quarantine facility.

The direct flight was more than 14,000 kilometres and took close to 16 hours to arrive in Darwin.

BTW the flight cost $2000 per person (not sure about children) and quarantine will cost $2500 each or $5000 per family. expensive business especially as some people had already booked on other airlines but kept getting cancelled.

After the State and federal cabinet met today the Australian PM, Scotty from Marketing, says he wants all Australians who want to return from overseas back home within two months, but it will be dependent on flights and “cooperation from state and territory governments”.

The rise in the number of infections is alarming despite all our attempts to stop the spread. France and the rest of Europe seem to be hit particularly hard. You have to ask yourself if the figures are correct, and could the testing be misleading us by showing a positive result for something else?

After months in lockdown tonight Melborne is freer as new cases fall to less than 5 per day on a rolling 14 day average.

25km from home limit remains so do restrictions on number allowed in venues but shops and businesses can reopen and life return to the new normal.

The NSW/Victoria border is likely to reopen in the next fortnight if cases stay low.

Michael Rowland is a fairly well known ABC TV journalist in Australia. He hosted the ABC Breakfast Show for years. Recently he took up a job as the ABCs Washington corespondent. The wrote an article about his recent trip from Melbourne to the USA.

It is not a long piece but the contrast between the two countries in the age of Covid is fascinating.

I just came across this graph in the Grauniad showing new cases per million population. It illustrates the problem Europe is facing at the moment with a second wave.

About time!

Queensland will open its border to New South Wales from 1:00am on November 3, but it will remain closed to Greater Sydney and Victoria, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says.

Ms Palaszczuk said the decision — which has been made on the eve of the state election — was based on the advice of the Chief Health Officer, who is concerned about community transmission of the virus in southern states.

Wollongong is not one of the 32 LGAs listed as being part of Greater Sydney. Free at last!
