Coronavirus

There is no vaccine as yet but although I have never had the flu shot I will certainly go for the corona one when it appears .

I think that if you can afford it, you should also have to pay for your own treatment Swims. Means tested treatment…

So based on your post Swimmy, you are telling me that the vaccine (when it is available) will be 100% safe, with no side effects, or risks to my health, and will protect me from ever catching the Covid19 virus?

So if I take your advice and accept the vaccine and something does go wrong, will you provide me with a signed document accepting all responsibility if something happens to me as a result of injecting an unknown and hastily tested substance into my body?

Will you also take care of Mrs Fox, My family and Maddie the cat, making sure they have a warm and safe place to live, provide them the food they need, and deliver them safely for appointments to Doctors, Dentists, Opticians, and vets?

Will you also maintain their house and gardens, and repair/replace household items such as fridge, freezer, cooker, TV, and any other essential household items required for smooth running of said household and property?

And should I end up disabled or horribly disfigured from said vaccine, will you provide medical assistance and pay their extortionate bills, and see to my toilet needs, push me around the country lanes in a wheelchair most days, and spoon feed me the nourishment I need if I am unable to feed myself?

If you can promise to do this Swim and guarantee the safety of the vaccine; Then Yes! I will have the vaccine…

:023: Excellent!

Hi

Nope, everything has side effects for some.

That is the nature of things.

I am currently on a daily cocktail of 10 medicines, 7 of which can have serious side effects.

I have side effects effects from 3, which, whilst annoying, are acceptable.

These medicines are keeping me alive.

What you are asking is impossible.

We all accept risk daily.

Going in a car is not 100% safe, but we do it.

Eating a meal is not 100% safe, people die from Food Poisoning every year.

It is all a matter of balance and probability.

Yes but you are recommending that I take the vaccine or suffer a penalty Swim…

No h/motels within 50km of where I was. It was a great weekend

Only joking Bruce, I’m glad you enjoyed it… You have better weather than us for camping. We would need flippers and a wet suit just lately.

NSW has now gone 11 days without any community transmission of Covid however testing numbers are down.

It is school holidays so it will be a week or so until we know if travel has made the situation worse.

For the first time in almost two weeks, health authorities in NSW have discovered locally acquired coronavirus infections.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said three new cases had been discovered in the state overnight.

The cases were in the Campbelltown, Parramatta and Wollondilly local government areas, and are not believed to be linked.

The cases were found after the state’s 8pm reporting cut-off, and will be included in tomorrow’s numbers.

I don’t think we are going to control this virus until it has had its pound of flesh. It does seem to prove that ‘Lockdown’ did work. However, has it just extended the time that the virus remains active?

I wonder how many people normally die in a day?

Everything you wanted to know from your very own Office for National Statistics for the week ending 25th September 2020 (I guess takes them a while to compile)

The number of deaths registered in England and Wales in the week ending 25 September 2020 (Week 39) was 9,634; this was 111 more deaths than in Week 38.

In Week 39, the number of deaths registered was 2.7% above the five-year average (257 deaths higher).

Of the deaths registered in Week 39, 215 mentioned "novel coronavirus (COVID-19)", accounting for 2.2% of all deaths in England and Wales; this is an increase compared with Week 38 (76 deaths higher).

The numbers of deaths in hospitals and care homes were below the five-year average in Week 39 (416 and 71 fewer deaths respectively), while the number of deaths in private homes remained above the five-year average (749 more deaths).

The number of deaths involving COVID-19 increased in eight of the nine English regions; the East and London were the only English regions to have lower overall deaths than the five-year average.

In Wales, the number of deaths involving COVID-19 increased from five deaths (Week 38) to 12 deaths (Week 39), while the total number of deaths in Week 39 was 13 more deaths than the five-year average.

The number of deaths registered in the UK in the week ending 25 September 2020 (Week 39) was 10,861, which was 179 deaths higher than the five-year average and 77 deaths higher than Week 38; of the deaths registered in the UK in Week 39, 234 deaths involved COVID-19, 76 deaths higher than Week 38.

Thanks for your research Bruce, very interesting.
I thought I’d have a look round the ONS statistics myself and came up with this:-

These stats range from 1974 - 2018

The total amount of male deaths in 2018 is 304,373
The most popular age for dying was 86
And the most deaths occurred in 1976 with 341,910

The total amount of female deaths for 2018 is 311,641
The most popular age for dying was 88
And the most deaths occurred in 1993 with 340,657

I wanted to compare previous years mortality with this years.
2019 is unavailable on my set of statistics, so I’ve used 2018 as a reference.
So total deaths in 2018 is 616,014…

Here are the figures for deaths in 2020 up to and including September.
Monthly figures first…
January…62770
February…43587
March…43700
April…79251
May…67295
June…39003
July…44490
August…37000
September…36707

Total deaths…453,803
