Hi
Epidemiology is basically maths,
It is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
Follow the rules and the sooner it will get better.

Spot on Swim, I think it was all about timing, and we were a tad too late with lockdown…
We shot ourselves in the foot when we built the channel tunnel and so many airports and allowed all and sundry to to enter our country unchallenged. For hundreds of years we kept out all kinds of undesirables, even diseases like rabies…And now look what’s happened…
It’s April Fools day…So somebody tell me this has all been a big joke by the Tree Huggers to make us see what life would be like without travel and Industry…We have ended up doing what the unions have been trying to do for the last fifty years…And Shut down the UK…Last one out, turn off the lights…
Some people are allready asking when they will be able to travel
again OGF?
I despair of the human race?
Are they self indulgent or just stupid?
Donkeyman!
Both of those .
563 people have died today .
We are now on the same trajectory as Italy
This is our worst day .
Yes.
2352 so far.
Could be quite a while Donkeyman. We’ve just got to roll with the punches…
Some science bloke on the telly tonight said that it usually takes about a fortnight from the first symptoms to death on the unfortunate ones.
So with record cases today 4372, the results will become apparent a fortnight from now.
But we are allready flying them back from where ever they went
OGF!
Are we mad?
I expect the lot we returned from china recently will want to go back
soon now things are easing there?
But the chinese have more sense than us and have banned anybody
from outside from entering china in case they reinfect chinese
citizens!!
Donkeyman!
With the resolved cases(recovered/dead) the death toll is 19%
so could think your right.
239,919
Cases which had an outcome:
193,431 (81%)
Recovered / Discharged
46,488 (19%)
Deaths
You might be interested how it is being reported here, this is today’s report on the ABC news site:
The UK has endured its highest number of daily deaths since the coronavirus crisis began, raising the total toll to more than 2,000 people.
On Wednesday, the hospital death toll jumped by 563 to 2,352 — a 31 per cent increase on the previous day’s toll of 1,789.
The amount of confirmed cases also jumped from 25,150 on Tuesday to 29,474 on Wednesday, an increase of more than 4,000.
Testing remains a contentious issue in the UK, with the Department of Health saying it carried out a total of 10,412 tests on 7,511 people — some of whom had to be tested several times for clinical reasons.
Britain’s current capacity is just 12,750 tests per day, compared to Germany’s figure of around 500,000 per week, and there are fears not enough frontline health workers are being tested to check if they are able to return to work after illness.
That is not how you work out mortality rate. What on earth do you think your 19% figure means? It is just meaningless and could be described as fearmongering by making things look worse than they really are.
Deaths/Total cases is the only figure that makes any sense and that is bad enough as it is
The World Health Organization is considering changing its guidance on whether people should wear face masks in public, prompted by new evidence that suggests doing so could help contain the pandemic.
The WHO, and the UK government, currently advise that face masks do not play a major role in protecting people from infection outside healthcare settings. But there are growing calls for this stance to be reviewed, with suggestions that the widespread use of face masks may have played a role in containing outbreaks in some Asian countries.
As of today, April 1st, Italy’s death toll is 13,155, with no end in sight.
Well as the doctor on the video on the the other thread said, a face mask or any facial protection is invaluable because it stops you touching your face after touching a contaminated surface. So based on his experience that’s enough reason for everyone to wear something over their mouth and nose. Those who wear glasses should have some eye protection. Because you don’t touch your eyes so much when wearing glasses.
Perhaps the solution is for people to wear mittens at all times, like toddlers with eczema?
NO! they say not to wear ordinary gloves because they are hard to clean everyday and the virus can live in them for many days. It was mentioned only yesterday on the news.
That is not referring to those disposable latex gloves.
