Coronation Street

I agree. Apart from the writers’ and directors’ predilection for political correctness, I find some of the storylines are interesting and entertaining.

Of course, there is still the ‘padding’ including some of the characters.

Another reason is that the production company, Yorkshire Television, has been defunct for several years now.

Some of their excellent programmes, such as Countdown and Emmerdale, were taken over by the so-called parent collective company (ITV) but several others have also been discontinued.

I do think that since ITV reformed and the 15 separate regional companies amalgamated, quality generally has suffered. To me, the great attraction of the ITV companies was that each had its own character quite apart from its regional bias. In addition, the ITV companies regularly ‘outsold’ the BBC with regard to viewer numbers. Unfortunately, now, ITV seem to concentrate on crappy ‘Big Brother - type’ programmes aimed at society’s lowest common denominator!

Still, that’s the way of the world.

Oh God, NO!

I can imagine Coronation Street sinking to the absolute depths when a family of Australians moves in. Incessant barbecues in the back yard, surrounded by cans of tasteless fizzy water, and both male and female actors flashing their bare chests.

In a Brian Rix Farce, JBR ?

Arrghhh ! :twisted::shock::078:

What I can’t understand is that Sinead is pregnant and the Hospital has told her she has Cancer and will probably have to terminate the pregnancy. Why won’t she tell Daniel? If that happened to me I would tell my Husband straight away, wouldn’t you?

Totally agree Susie.
I can’t for the life of me understand why she hasn’t said anything, but it’s always the same in the soaps.
Then another lie has to be told to cover the first one and so on . . .
Look what happened because Toyah never told Peter about the adopted baby and how he ended up hating her for the deceipt - and so will Daniel!

And also, if the girl has confirmed cancer, why a three week delay if she has to change her appointment?

Or is that commonplace these days?

I’m seriously losing the will to live after some of the recent storylines in Cora…

She won’t tell him because he lost it mentally when she had the last termination.

I haven’t watched any of the soaps for a few years now I find the storylines just too depressing. I watch Coronation Street if Jack has a big scene but apart from that I really don’t know any of the new characters.

I watch every episode, but I confess to not knowing most of the names now. When I read a review in the newspaper and it mentions someone by name, the chances are I have no idea to whom it is referring.

The problem is, I think, that they now have too many characters. I think I now know perhaps no more than half-a-dozen by name.

I’m just the same as you JBR. I hardly ever know the names from the reviews.

Well it’s about time he grew up then, and helped Sinead instead of thinking of himself!

I was at a friend’s house the other night and was sad to see Maureen Lipman in Corrie. She is - or was - far too good an actress for that. I hope it was only a comeo appearence.

I think she’s awful in it Tabs. They haven’t given her a nice part at all, and I think it’s silly.

:023:

She’s an Ena Sharples replacement!

Ah yes of course he did, still doesn’t make it right though does it?

I didn’t really like Tracy’s wedding dress, did you?
