Climate Change is Caused By Humans, Says UN

Quote - Humanity’s damaging impact on the climate is a “statement of fact”, say UN scientists in a landmark study.

Just sayin’ :102:

Nature has a way of dealing with species which are too successful. It would happen anyway- we are just speeding it up.

Aye, nobody has the monopoly on Mother Nature.

Hi

We are certainly contributing to it and we can control our contributions.

What we cannot control are the natural cycles of the Earth.

We are due another Ice Age and when it comes we will be the economic migrants.

Oh that’s a cheery thought, Swimmy! As if Scotland (for example) isn’t cold enough! best start packing then!

I am grateful to have had my life when I did . I fear for my grandchildren and droughts bringing huge migrations and a fight for recourses :icon_sad:

Well maybe if we can do something now, Meg…it won’t come to that…its a worry, yes, but I think we all need to pull together (and by “we” I mean countries and governments)

The UN are lying.

Don’t believe a word they say.

@PixieKnuckles That is so Pixie, I do what I can adding ‘a small flame in the darkness’ as they say.
My 11 year old grandaughter has been nominated to run the climate change group in her school and it is good to see the projects they are doing from growing plants to recycling.

Wow that is fabulous, Meg! Well done to her! Its sad though that the young ones will have to mop up ((no pun intended) the damage that we have unwittingly caused. But the younger generations are becoming more fiercely protective of our Earth, so hopefully we can all do something about it sooner than later if we all work together!

I have an idea - Let’s switch everyone on to Hydrogen Heating Boilers - at 10,000 pounds a pop.
That should go down well with the lower paid!

OK, then, Let’s switch everyone onto Electric cars - Oh dear, the batteries will cost 6,000 to replace, and after 6 years!

OK let’s switch all batteries to Lithium - oh yes, there isn’t enough Lithium on the planet.

OK, let’s stay as we are.

That’s a plan!

The UN has a history of getting things completely wrong …

Climate Change, if it makes us less dependent on arab oil, then I’m all for it.

@Bread Hi Bread :grinning: with respect I don’t need the UN to tell me something I am capable of working out for myself.
We humans have been degrading the planet since we set foot on it and this was accelerated by the industrial revolution.
My sisters nephew is scientist and spends a lot of time with the British Antarctic Survey Team BAS and I believe they do know what is happening to our planet.

that is so good to hear, its our future

Hi

There have been five mass extinctions on earth, irrespective of the cause, it was Climate Change which caused them.

We are arrogant us humans, we cannot at present stop another.

What we can do is influence our effect on the Planet.

The Artic Glaciers are melting, they are fresh water and lowering the salinity of the Artic Oceans, this affects the Gulf Stream, and when that changes, we are in for a big freeze and we will not be producing food as we are now.

We will be on the move and Africa will be the temperate region.

Right, I’m off to go and stay with @Minx then!

@Meg, the UN are a completely untrustworthy organisation, they have got everything wrong so far over climate change.

I’m not a climate change denier by any means but the hysteria and the accusations around the impact by humans is quite laughable. The biggest cause of carbon dioxide is the rotting of rain forests and then methane gas from cows (and other animals). Climate change is not about protecting the planet, its about protecting the extinction of people, it’s very selfish in that respect. The planet has survived many disasters over history since the exitinction of the dinosaurs and it will survive the next natural disaster and in particular, climate change - people won’t. The earth has been warming up since the ice age, before cars, before aeroplanes, power stations and factories.

The biggest threat to our climate (in my view) is the dumping of waste and mis-management of fish stocks. The sea is a massive carbon sink (the biggest on the planet by far I would guess) and nobody mentions it. All you hear about is cars and factories (anything taxable funnily enough), even though we have already reduced massively the emissions from cars and aeroplanes and in the UK got rid of coal being used industrially in power stations. Yet, the climate change doom mongers only point the finger at wealthy nations, never against the real culprits, Russia, China, USA etc … even India has managed to reduce its carbon footprint.

and then we get Greta Thunberg flying around the world telling us what to do, and Sadiq Kahn telling us to use bikes and banning cars while he ponces around in his 5.0 litre Range Rover, Obama and his party bash the other day with 200 celebrities flying in on private jets and blocking the roads with their big diesel cars, the G7 in Cornwall where leaders flew in on aeroplanes etc.

The management of our climate is done terribly by hypocrites, useless leaders and gob shites. Climate change isn’t political either - it affects everyone whether your left or right, gay or straight, tall or short, black or white etc. It’s abused by governments as an excuse to raise taxes and for many socialist organisation (like the UN for example) to garner support through rhetorical nonesense and deception. Look at what’s happening in Germany, building more coal fired power stations because their green technology isn’t fit for purpose … why aren’t the EU outraged over this ? They are the ones with a “green new deal” designed to carbon neutral by 2050 - hypocrites ! All we hear is silence and are we surprised ? No of course not.

If we want to fix the climate we need to agree on the problem, where it lies and who is responsible. There is no point in forcing UK citizens to pay 30K for a new boiler when the UK only contributes less than 1% in carbon when China does nothing and contributes the most. Put 3000% tarrifs on Chinas imports until they get their pollution down to our levels, stop saying its everyones fault when it isn’t. Doing this makes no sense and makes no difference. If the UN said climate change is being caused by the USA, China and Russia they might get somewhere instead of once again pointing their faulty opinions at the wrong people and being proved wrong over and over again. Why aren’t they lobbying for big taxes on cargo ships, or dredging rivers to prevent flooding, or putting a 100% ban on certain fish stock stocks or lobbying for the eviction of Japan from the WTO over their fishing of whales etc etc etc.

Trump was right pulling out of the Paris Agreement - we are going green whether we like it or not. Electric cars are affordable and perform better than the petrol or diesel equivalents, for example. Green energy is the same price as non-green energy and cheaper in a lot of suppliers now. Why pay billions in taxes for something your doing anyway ? Invest those billions in going green in your own country instead because if you give it away you achieve nothing.

The UN need to tell the truth for a change and stop trying to scare people. The climate isn’t as bad as we are lead to believe but it does need work. We should leave the UN and so should others until it starts telling the truth.

… sorry about the long rant

Forgive me for being a bit cynical, wasn’t the Sahara once a green and pleasant land, what happened there, oh! probably climate change, manmade I think not, electric cars who’s pushing the agenda on that.
