That is sad … he is/was/ and will always be one of my favourite musicians.
Who can not help but sing along to his wonderful
‘Driving Home for Christmas’.

What a shame, Shamrock Diaries, what an album, RIP.
I was very sad to see this earlier. I have several of his CDs.
Oh, how sad, he was a really good musician. I remember the Christmas hit, a lovely song.
I had been working away in Plymouth for six months and missed Mrs fox so much.
My last day of the contract was 15th of December 1994, I then drove the 300 miles back home to Yorkshire and Mrs Fox’s waiting arms…It has been our favourite Christmas record ever since.
RIP Chris, you have left me with some good music and happy memories…

Sorry but, as a musician apart from paying the bills, I bet Chris sort of regretted the Christmas song, a bit like Jeff hated Hey ho silver lining. What to be remembered by!
Apparently, he had just had a major operation for pancreatic cancer, he had also been banned from driving…So it was actually his missus who drove down to London and take him home to Newcastle…
Foxy, so many people were not there at the start (many were) so the irony is that the Christmas song (at his time of passing) will be his legacy regardless of all the great stuff.
Well, just as driving home for Christmas is a great Christmas song, what about on the beach as a great summer song, a great musician who will be sadly missed, rip Chris
Sorry for some negativity as far as the back catalogue goes but, never understood what the New light through Old Windows was about, Stainsby, I can hear your heartbeat etc etc should have been left well alone IMO
I loved his christmas song but as you say … he was more than that. He always seemed such a modest charming guy , nothing false about him,
My very favourite was this one …
Brilliant musician with unforgettable songs that I don’t get fed up with hearing, not even his Christmas song when it gets played every other hour. We’ll never know how many people, apart from the two of us, were just driving home for Christmas while listening to this song which nearly had never been released. Poor chap who had to take 34 pills a day due to various medical issues. He can rest assured that he’ll leave his songs to his daughters something he’d been concerned about. RIP, Chris.
Chris Rea with his instantly recognisable voice, truly one of the great singer songwriters.
This Info made me smile , he took and passed the driving test in his dad’s ice cream van .
Let’s dance . X
My other half came from around Middlesborough…I can remember he was held in high regard in that neck of the woods! ![]()
And he’d lost his driving licence temporarily while his Christmas song was being released.
Like Led Zep and Stairway to Heaven. They are haunted by that song.
It’s a damn good song …
Bye Bye Chris Rhea.
Yeah … so is Hi Ho Silver Lining after a few beers.
