Chit Chat Thread (Part 2)

@carol did the plumbers sort your boiler out? You could do without it all going wrong, bad enough that you had to go through having a new boiler while still nursing a broken elbow!

Well my daughter has finally managed to sell her little Dutch Dresser, which is being picked up in about half an hour. That means we can buy her the IKEA furniture she wants in its place - a promised birthday present, already delayed because she needed to get shot of the dresser first. Sad to see it go really, because she’s always loved it, such a pretty piece of furniture. But she’s in a tiny house, and has to maximise the available space, and the dresser simply wasn’t earning its keep!

Not sorted yet. He found an underfloor leak that was making the pressure drop. He then upped the price by another ÂŁ1,000 as the downstairs pipes will all have to be re-piped.

I may be able to claim off the insurance for the underfloor leak so all work is suspended until an insurance assessor comes on Tuesday.

In the meantime his wife who thinks she’s his PA is phoning me up demanding money for a half finished job. I am holding on to half of the money until I get heat downstairs. She has shouted at me, making demands down the phone & totally refuses to see my point of view

I’m depressed by it all. Why do things never go right for me?

Carol, your contract is with the plumber not his wife. Just tell her politely that you deal with him and hang up the phone. He will invoice you accordingly. She sounds like a right nut, and I’m sorry you are having to put up with this! :hugs:

Thanks Pixie. She thinks they’re partners because she makes the bookings etc.
I did more or less tell her I only wanted to speak to Sam & she took offence.

You should have heard her yelling at me - demanding I pay the money I was witholding.

I’ve shut her up now though. I told her if she didn’t stop interfering & trying to assert herself there would be a court case. I would withhold the money & she would take me to court.

I also told her 'You’ve blown it now lady - you won’t be getting a good review on ‘My Builder’
Of course I won’t give Sam a bad review - he worked very hard. However I will not be able to resist having a word about his gobby PA/wife. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Good for you, Carol! (Although you still shouldn’t have to put up with that stress), but still
I’m glad you put her in her place. From the sounds of it, she has probably cost him customers rather than gain him new ones!

Oh Carol, I’m so sorry you’re having all this trouble. She sounds a right mare, that wife of his, goodness me! Sounds as though she’s met her match in you though - you’ll not take any nonsense from her, good on yer!

I hope your insurance company come good for you. Good luck x

Blimey, how many times did I use the word ‘good’ in that last post? :icon_rolleyes: :icon_redface:

Aw thanks Pixie & Sheba. A bit of moral support is welcome.

Seriously - it is getting me down.

Blimey Carol that’s a bugger, and at the worst possible time for you with this cold snap
:disappointed_relieved: Sending (((hugs)))

Good morning all, snowing heavily here at the moment, having worked in construction most of my life I learned to hated the stuff, and my loathing for it hasn’t abated since I retired so I desperately hope it doesn’t hang around for too long. :rage:

We were going to visit a daughter later on but we’ll just have to see how the roads are now before deciding, but no other plans for the day.

Hope your day treats you well.

Thanks Barry.

Good morning everybody.

We have snow here. It’s falling quite heavily.
If the portable heaters don’t do their stuff we may have to live upstairs as we have no hot radiators downstairs & it’s freezing.

Have a good day all.

Good morning all.
So as usual I went out with Minnie a short time ago, and the cold wind hit me. I did not realise how cold it was as I only had a thin coat on. It is now overcast and a north wind. I just hope that there is not going to be snow.
I went to the monthly meet in the pub as the usual venue was not available for this month. I was surrounded by women as I was the only bloke there.
Plumbers and other work people can at times be a pain. The bloke that painted the front of my house recently, went off with the remainder of the paints that I could have used.
That local IKEA that is closing down, it don’t matter to me as I have never been there.

Morning all.

Yes, Emjay, I love going into IKEA and am gutted it is closing.

Weather here has been pretty nasty but I am hoping for a break in it so I can walk Holly. Think the time is about now, so best dash.

Good morning all, a bit of the white stuff on and off but not settled

It is cold and windy , Ive just been and covered some new plants up , to protect them ,
Have a good day .

Been on dog walk. Well, just round the corner. Told her she can have longer at a later time if weather settles.

Arrrrg! Got some of that white stuff falling from the sky.
Just hope it don’t stay too long as I have got to go out later this afternoon/evening to my daughter for dinner.

Gosh all you people reporting snow - we’ve got beautiful blue skies and bright sunshine here in Devon! It is still a bit chilly, but at least it looks lovely. Snow is a very rare occurrence in my neck of the woods, much to the disappointment of all the little ones. We do get it, though, on Dartmoor most years, so consequently the whole area gets clogged with mums and dads taking their kids up there for a bit of fun in the snow!

Surprised to hear of an IKEA closing down - I wonder if they’ll open another one in its place? I love and hate the store in equal measure I think. I love that you can get so much all under one roof, but I absolutely hate the layout, which forces you to twist round and round so you have to pass and therefore see everything. I know there are shortcuts, but they’re no use if you don’t really know where they lead! I always end up getting lost and covering much more ground than is really necessary

The land is rumoured to have housing built there, because of developments in the area. A stupid decision, if you ask me. The company have probably been offered a shed load of money for the site.

Yes, I can believe that - land there must be worth a fortune!

Good morning everybody.

I’m feeling extremely rough this morning. I tested positive for covid yesterday - so that, along with my broken arm just about stops me doing anything much at all. Lazy days reading & watching TV ahead for me.

Have a good day all

Good morning all, terrible weather here.

Hope you feel a bit better later in the day Carol.

Have a nice day all.
