Chit Chat Thread (Part 2)

Morning all,

Dull and cloudy here, but still warm. Still no sign of any rain, which we could sorely do with.

Off to take little one to her swimming lesson shortly. She’s missed two weeks because the pool was closed due to a fault in the thermostat. Afterwards I’m taking them straight to Specsavers in Sainsbury, because my daughter has been suffering for a few weeks on and off with styes and conjunctivitis in her left eye. She’s left off wearing contact lenses to give it time to recover, and yesterday wore them for the first time as all seemed well. After a few hours her eye flared up again, red, swollen, itchy and very painful. I’m just hoping that if she goes into the optician and they see the state of her eye they may be able to fit her in as an emergency :crossed_fingers:

Have a good day all.

Morning all.

Bath, hope your D’s eye heals soon, and she gets the right and best treatment.

A few places running around for today. Pharmacy, library and Pets at Home.

Whatever else I do today will just have to happen.

Enjoy your day.

Good morning all.
Whatever the weather is doing here I don’t have a clue.
It was nice and sunny earlier, but now it has clouded over. I don’t think that there is any of the much needed rain coming out of them.
As usual for Saturday, laundry is already in the dryer, and another lot of towels in the wash.
I am hoping that my grandson will be coming here later to help me do a repair to my conservatory door. I should say rather I shall be helping him.

Good morning everybody.

Well, it’s a boring day here - just shopping & house cleaning…

Sheba, I hope your daughter gets her eye seen to. I suffered with something similar last year. It took a while to get right.

Have a good day everybody…

Prices now! Shocked at dog food and milk.

Thanks Jazzi. Specsavers were no help at all, refused to see her without an appointment. The optician wouldn’t even come out of her room to have a quick look and give her any advice. Frankly I thought it was disgusting, that they have no provision for emergency appointments. They gave her an appointment for 13th August :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I was about 5 minutes in the pharmacy (no queue), less than half hour in the library, then on to retail park. Pets at Home, Morrisons and home bargains. In PaH I was shocked at what they are selling Holly’s dog food for. Amongst other brands I buy the big tray of Forthglade, and it does two meals. Used to sell for between £1 and £1.45. Sometimes they are on offer. £1.99 in PaH, and £1.75 in Morrisons! Shocking. So I got other brands today, costing about £1.20 or £1.30. (But still her usual, and all different flavours.) I swear the pick n mix biscuits have gone up in price too. Will check against old spend diaries.

Oh, pint of milk now 89p. I’m sure I used to spend that in my corner convenience shops!!

Just had a ham sandwich - with the lovely salt and black pepper bread from Morrisons - and a cuppa. And a cream and jam doughnut. Dog walk shortly.

Bath, that is terrible service! What is she supposed to do in the meantime? Do you have an A&E or walk in clinic near you?

A&E about 6 miles, but shockingly busy with waits of up to 10 hours. She’s going to ring her GP first thing Monday and see if she can be referred as an emergency to eye clinic at the hospital, or at the very least to ‘Devon Doctors clinic at the hospital.

Hope she gets immediate attention. I wish her well.

Bathsheba, take her to a pharmacy if you can’t get any help !
I went to a pharmacy to have my covid jab & mentioned that my eye was very sore. They gave me some Optrex drops that soothed my eye in a day, but they said use the whole bottle.
She needs something if her eye is so sore & another pharmacy advised me that the drops I was given are made to treat conjunctivitis!

Good call. Pharmacists are trained to help in cases where a GP appt is not available. To the best of their ability and their stock.

She did go to her local pharmacy a few days ago and got some drops, which she says are instantly soothing. She thought this would sort it out, but just trying her contact lenses for a few hours made it flare up worse than ever. So back to her glasses and regular drops…

Sheba, your daughter should dial 111.

I’ve had good results from doing this…

Then she needs to see an optician because the contact lenses may be causing the problem. She should contact her doctor and ask which local optician is responsible for painful eye problems.

I had a lump in my tear duct this year so the doctor referred me to the local optician& he told me to bathe it in warm water 4 times a day for 10 days. Initially it helped but then the lump got bigger so I phoned him again & he called me in immediately.
It turned out to be a blocked tear duct that had become infected, but he had said it wasn’t ,so I told him my doctor would be shocked to hear that a professional optician thought bathing with warm water would clear an infection on a diabetic.
I didn’t return to him and my pharmacist gave me stronger drops on instruction from my doctor!

Phone all opticians that she is able to travel to and explain how long this had been happening and ask if her contact lens could be causing the problem & how to deal with it.

Good advice @Twink55, thank you. I’ll pass this onto her. Thankfully she’s on her summer break now (she’s a TA at a local school), so she has time to make the calls and travel to wherever.

I think this too is a good idea, thanks Carol x

They will take all the worry out of it.
A doctor or nurse will question your daughter intensely.

They will know if she needs a doctor, specialised optician or a hospital and will point her in whatever direction near to her.

All it takes it the one phone call. x

Good morning all.
Windy and cloudy also it has been said that it might rain.
Yesterday afternoon I had my son here with his son. They had their camping gear in my garage, and they wanted to check it out. So they did it in my garden.
Also my other grandson turned up and came to fix my door.
I have found that the pharmacist are sometimes more helpful than the doctors. Well my one is (thanks Joe). Also you don’t need to make an appointment.
Nothing planed for today, so will just let it happen.

Good morning all
we had rain in the night , A wild party of women in their 50s next door went on till 1am.
It started outside but moved inside when the rain started , they chose the bedroom next to mine .None of them could sing and their shouting and giggling would put a miners welfare to shame . A few red faces this morning I should think .

I went on a new walk yesterday by the River and Blackberries were in abundance , hanging like grapes and tasting so sweet .I aim on going back and picking and freezing some for winter .

Have a wonderful day

Morning all.

A late start for me. Just finishing breakfast then must walk Holly.

WM will go on later, with a clothes wash, and I have a roast to cook. Other than that, no plans. Let’s see what happens as the day goes on.

Don’t think we have any wild blackberries here, but I could check the path leading down to the old train track. (A safe path for pedestrians and cyclists etc.)

Morning everyone, a bit dull and rainy here today, but heaven knows we need it. Not enough though, just drizzle. The air feels so fresh and clean coming through the open windows - Mr B complained it was cold as soon as he walked in the living room, and wanted the windows shut. Not a chance matey, put a jumper on! Honestly, it’s not even remotely cold

I made a top for my granddaughter yesterday, and it wasn’t exactly how I wanted it (she loves it, mind you!). Thing is, I was trying to copy a top her mum bought her which looks lovely on her, and it wasn’t quite the same. So I’ve adjusted the pattern, and am going to make a toile today, (i.e. using some cheap fabric that I don’t mind wasting, just to see if it fits ok).

Have a good day folks
