Ooooh, yeah , that’s the proper job, decent mug of tea too!
This thread is turning into chip porn
It’s no good, I’m going to have to make some now
As to those who can’t take their chip butty and turned their nose up at a nice slice of white bread……away with you, shoo!
This is a nice one!
Chips in a barm:
Ooooh, I’d forgotten barms …….
In the other hand - a faggot’n’pea batch:
That would be a big no no for me too!
You ever tried eating a Big Tasty and a whole portion of Chip Shop type Chips, Billy Bunter did and look what happened to him!
That’s it. Poll created to give a voice to the chip butty lovers and non-lovers.
I’m in the minority too. I don’t understand how we ended up putting vinegar on our chips. Ketchup tastes so much better.
What’s a barm, it looks like a bread roll to me.?
AFAIK, ketchup contains vinegar …
Ok but do they taste the same as a soft bread roll?
(What is barm?)
A barm cake is a soft, round, flattish bread roll from North West England, traditionally leavened with barm. In Ireland, barm is used in the traditional production of barmbrack, a fruited bread.
leaven - make bread rise
Thanks I’ve learnt something today! I don’t think I’ve ever seen or eaten one.
Whenever I’ve had chips anywhere in Europe, they always have mayonnaise on them. That’s OK
The first time I ever tasted mayonnaise was when I was about 11 in Belgium on some frites (only salad cream up to then!)
I thought it was the most amazing thing ever!
I don’t know what a “Big Tasty” is … ?
When I was a kid, my siblings and I practically lived on egg and chips, or if we couldn’t afford eggs, it was just chip butties - we were far too refined to call them chip butties, though - my Mum used to put a big plate of chips and a plate of bread and margarine on the table and tell us we were having a “Communal Chip Dinner” ! -
- despite all those chips, we were all very skinny!
Homemade chips for me.
Thanks Boot, I remember, just about.
