Have you watched the video above Venus?
I could show you a lot worse but they have been withdrawn.
Remember too the programmes you see on TV have been edited.

Thanks Meg. Tried to link up to video with no success but next time I am on will give it another go.
I guess it is down to interpretation then Muddy.
To me when someone kicks a dog in the groin, or picks it up by the throat, or chokes one until it nearly passes out , or thumps it hard, or used an electric shock I would call that torture.
All these methods used by CM and many more have been observed and discussed by myself and fellow members on our sister site Dogsey. Many of the videos were removed by the distributors but stay in the memory of many of us.
You are free of course to have your own interpretation of torture , some of us here share the same one.
Yes lots of people swear by him …I’ll admit when I first saw the TV shows I though wow at last someone who tackles the owners …
Then I looked more closely at some of his techniques and I realised I didnt like what I saw…
Yes he had his die hard fans but the fact is he has a lot of critics too and they are not just dog owners he failed the dog trainers test in Germany , his shows have been banned in Austria and the former president of the American veterinary association has this to say… He is more qualified than any of us and certainly more that CM himself…
Be true to yourself, take a good look and ask yourself if you would really trust someone with no qualifications to put a shock collar on your own dog…If you still say yes it says more about you as a pet owner than it does about CM after all he gets paid for this…
It works for me Venus best to go to post number five posted by Lovemydogs and to link from there…
Not fear but respect!
Its easy and painless .
everyone has to learn respect for others even dogs!
I thought that the vets article was biased to say the least.
Cesars dogs never have fun ?
They seem to be pretty happy from what i see.
Much happier than with their neurotic owners!
In February 2009, the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) issued a “position statement” about the use of punishment for behavior modification in animals, detailing 9 possible adverse effects of using punishment when training dogs.
“The AVSAB recommends that veterinarians not refer clients to trainers or behavior consultants who coach and advocate dominance hierarchy theory and the subsequent confrontational training that follows from it,” the position statement says.
That statement was initiated with Millan in mind, says Dr. Laurie Bergman, of Norristown, Pa., a member of AVSAB’s executive board.
“We had been moving away from dominance theory and punitive training techniques for a while, but, unfortunately, Cesar Millan has brought it back,” she says.
and many many more share the same opinion.
You read that whole article and could only manage one sentence to pick on…
Obviously and fan and not open to dicussion of the facts , this is where I bow out of a futile discussion.
I dont pay too much notice to vets on animal behaviour.
They are vets and i have known many vets who have not been that good with animals themselves rather hardened in fact.
In the same way doctors children can be as dsyfuncial as anyone elses.
Here 's another article that provides and alternative veiw on Cesar ( wash my mouth out with soap and water !) Milan
from the article
Here’s “The Dog Whisperer” in a nutshell: Somebody’s going to be in charge, you or your dog. If it’s the dog, you’ve both got problems. (It helps Cesar’s ratings that Los Angeles is chock full of attractive women who don’t get it.) He doesn’t teach dogs to navigate obstacle courses or compose sonatas. He instructs their owners how to prevent them from attacking children, eating furniture and charging city buses.

Qualifications are not the be all and end all of everything .
This seems like a man who has a gift being dismissed because he started life as a penniless Mexican immigrant and made good in a field that is full of very many useless trainers ( often women im afraid to say)
Cesar often takes on dogs that have been failed by 'qualified 'trainers.
and saves them from being euthanized.
He gives them a life
Please dont get personal
Its unnecessary you dont know me so please give a reasoned rebuttal with out name calling .
Havnt we just been warned about that .
You are the only person in my long life that has made such a comment as everyone who knows me knows my love and devotion to animals that have been REALLY abused .
I love this article on pit bulls By Cesar
having come from a place where there are lots of pit bulls and many abused and forced to fight i know how badly they are treated and what loving big hearted dogs they really are .
I can say this as i have lived the last years of my life where this abuse is common place whilst most people in the UK have but limited experience with these dogs as they are supposedly forbidden in the uk
Cesar Milan - Pah…
To my way of thinking he is discomfiting the dog in this link to an intolerable proportion. He wants it to behave badly and is encouraging it just so he can put on a show of his dominance for the camera (as usual). He is giving it no space, no where to go, no choices except to retaliate out of fear. Load of rubbish IMO and not the way anyone should handle a dog. The man is a menace IMO, but unfortunately those who know no better blindly listen to him. Look at the body language of that dog and also the aggressive and dominating body language of Milan - it need not be like this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ihXq_WwiWM
Where is the natural affinity in this link then Muddy (already posted it on another thread in the hope that you notice and might realise what is going on).
Natural affinity doesn’t mean miracle worker
This is one nasty over dominant dog .
Its not afraid or fearful its been ruling the roost as top dog for a long time too long i would imagine
Had it been trained as a pup to not be food possessive it would not react like this.
Animals can be bullies if they are allowed
No one would tolerate this behaviour in a teenager - quite literally biting the hand that feeds it
Nor should it be tolerated in a dog
IMO Cesar handled it well.
Ah well you must have missed the obvious body language the dog displayed. It gave enough signals of being uncomfortable and distressed - the poor creature was practically frozen and IMO Cesar boxed it into a corner until it had no place else to go except attempt to get out of a situation it was fearful and uncomfortable with. There is no bond established between the pair of them (usually the first base to get to is a degree of mutual trust - but Milan seems to totally disregard that over and over again. Granted this poor creature had moronic and inadequate owners in the first place (I noticed in one vid. the owner approached it with a broom pole so the dog could be displayed reacting). Don’t underestimate the deviousness of people who are only too keen to get on the telly.
Do you remember Shadow the Husky and Milan

It had the whole garden to run in .
Its was not a fearful dog .
I know what a fearful dog looks like .
I know what dominant nasty dogs look like too and surprisingly they are NOT always dogs that have been mistreated .
they are dogs that have been spoilt rotten ( Usually by silly or ignorant owners ) and have developed dominant bullying behaviour
That dog has been doing this for a long while = which is PRECISELY why the owners had brought in CM.
Jackie I have seen these videos many times and they always make me very angry and sad, how anyone can see CMs methods and call themselves a dog lover is beyond me.
Meg Just because i disagree with you over Cesar Milan you chose to insinuate that i am not a dog lover .
This is unpleasant and unfair,
we disagree
I like the man you dont
When it comes to training dogs and canine behaviour there are many opinions out there.
I have put forward my reasoned arguement in a civil manner
I am a person who takes on dogs that have been badly treated and often have many problems you are now the second person in the world who has accused however indirectly of not being an animal lover .
I am reminded in this discussion of some defensive dogs who don’t like a new dog coming into their domain and are determined to show their dominance.
Dominance criticized in Cesar Milan
