It does appear occasionally, but no longer in round tubs.
Butter has to be salted, for me. I believe Kerrygold comes in unsalted also, not sure …
Did anyone else ever have a Bel cream maker? Where you melted unsalted butter in milk. Then pumped it, by hand, through a valve
Yes Michael we did but I found a glass jar did the same job .
Oh thats just brought back memories my aunt and my gran used to make it in a Kiln jar
No not heard of one of those, am intrigued by it now though I’d also completely forgotten about Vitalite until now
I like butter and we use it. The spreads are definitely not the same, although my OH is happy to eat them. Butter has lovely memories for me. My grandma used to buy the loose tub butter and I can still see her with the butter patters. When she had it in the shape she wanted it, she used to finish it off with a butter stamp which left a litle picture of a flower imprinted on it.
Hi Rena I can remember wooden tubs of butter and buying half a pound wrapped in greaseproof paper , lovely taste it had too. We used to get it from a grocer in Ashbourne, Bagnalls I think it was called
We were all living together in London at that time Meg and food was still rationed. I think the butter came from my Grandfather’s brother. He had a smallholding near Hellions Bumpstead and I loved staying there. We used to get honey and eggs as well.
Mmm you cant beat some delicious buttered crumpets …yummy ,and it has to be butter not a spread.
oooh I can just taste them now… haven’t had crumpets in ages :-D:-D
my mouth is watering now
Crumpets toasted on a coal fire …mmmmm!
used to do that when i was a kid and with a little jam on as well
I don’t like butter so never buy it, and very rarely use spreads. Eat dry toast or with jam on sometimes, and the only thing I have on a sandwich is the filling…
We are so similar in so many ways, but part here … toast has to be really buttery! And sandwiches must be buttered.
We are Eileen, but suppose we have to differ on something at times Can sit down and eat a slice of dry bread anytime, got to be wholemeal though-always keep a tub of spread in just in case I make sandwich for anyone. Couldn’t really offer them a slice of dry bread and glass of water for dinner could I?
oh yummy i can remember my gran toasting crumpets by the fire and homemade bread then adding lashing of butter
Yes, merz, I suspect it’s a nature/nurture thing. Genetically programmed to be very similar, but upbringing and life experiences would lead to different tastes …
Leia cat, who tends to exaggerate a bit, tells company that I feed her on bread and water … which is why she’s skin and bones as her pics all show ,… little drama queen…
Looking again at her pic Eileen, she does look hard done by-best of everything is not doing her well!!!
