Britain in crisis?

Funnily enough I’ve hardly mentioned Brexit at all in this thread. Barely a reference (two passing comments, in fact). But clearly the patently clear truth that Brexit is making it all so much worse for the UK is registering with you.
Now, please pack up your paranoid. There is no world master plan. Vaccines are not evil. The big banks are not trying to enslave us. The simple problem is that (1) governments are often full of lass than capable people who make bad mistakes, often driven by political dogma or by the desire to appear ‘strong’; and (2) big businesses will also seek to maximise profit at the expense of workers and the public and often lack the necessary regulation & oversight to rein in these actions…

Just came across this one whilst doing my evening scroll:

SNCF is state owned. It also appears to have substantial multinational interests, including in the UK. Why is it that French state owned organisations are so successful at being outward looking whereas ours failed to even effectively operate in the UK? It’s a very interesting case study. They also have EDF which has substantial interests in the UK and no doubt other countries. There’s something I’m missing here about why we need to go outside to help run our services, but our neighbours not only run theirs successfully but run those in many other nations.

Cos we sold out, our pickets were working class. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

That was one year ago. We are talking about countries in crisis, or not, right now in the winter of 2022. How is this historic strike relevant?

SNCF and EDF are probably staffed by British personnel who left the UK because it was so rubbish and the government couldn’t organise a two ticket raffle. So the business owners moved to France like strath.

Actually, it is more likely that EDF & SNCF are managed by graduates from ENA, the top university where most leaders (business & government) have come from. Interestingly Macron decided to close ENA as there is a perception that it has promoted the ‘elite’ who do not understand ordinary lives.

It’s not from a year ago, unless I’ve slept 2022 away and we’re now in December 2023.

According to GB News it has become too expensive to refine oil into petrol and diesel here so they have closed most of the refineries and you’ll never guess where we get most of our diesel from…Russia! They ship it to us in tankers that are deliberately anchored offshore and are only allowed to dock when we need the supplies in order to drive up the price.

What if Unison went on strike?

What Crisis? who said that before?

Maggie apparently, so apt.

whenever the brits are in a crisis [ what is a brit by todays value? don’t even think a bout that one ] they just sit down and have a few drinks then think on it have a few more drinks etc etc and wake to the next day challenges sometimes with a hangover?

Germany did paint itself into a corner making itself so reliant on Russian gas and closing down so many nuclear stations post-Fukushima

In Fife, they are running a trial in a village to see if people would switch to hydrogen gas for their heating. Of course, when I say trial I mean bribing potential experimentees with £1,000. This is the way of doing this now
