Brexit benefits - where are they?

This is a lie. The EU did not exist until Maastricht.

We voted to join the common market.

Yes, this is the issue I highlighted sometime ago. The post-Brexit deal as it stands will make electric cars much more expensive in the UK. It is another example of how poor the UK/EU trade deal thrashed out by Frost, Johnson, etc. turns out to be in reality. It was always going to impact trade and make imports more expensive. So this Benz boss is of course asking both the UK and the EU to adjust the details of the trade agreement.
I was also reading about Portsmouth multi-million empty goods inspection warehouse built to handle food and animal imports from the EU. Rees-Mogg panicked last year and delayed the introduction of the more rigorous checks as he knew it would ramp up food imports to the UK. That is, ramp them up even more than inflation has already done. So now we have EU food producers getting inspection and inspection costs free access to the UK market. While UK food exporters have to go through these very inspections as the EU put all measures in place ages ago. Certainly the UK will need to put these measures in place as soon as inflation drops.
So we have two Brexit non-benefits. A bad trade deal that will make cars more expensive in the UK and food product inspections that will make foods more expensive in the UK.
Darn, I forgot, they need us more than we need them…

Do I have to explain what this is to you as well ? You do know what rules of origin are right ?

I do know that it the highly integrated nature of the automotive industry and its complex supply chain was highlighted before the referendum. And the risks that any introduction of customs, let alone tariffs, would cause significant issues. The leave side told us that this was not worth worrying about and the solution would be just excellent.
How did that go?

Nowhere near. I asked about rules of origin.

You can understand why no country other than the United Kingdom has voted in favour of withdrawing from the EU after witnessing the U.K. Brexit deal….

Every trade deal in the world will have some reference to rules of origin. This is obvious. Its needed to protect against simply selling on goods bought from elsewhere. Why are you so agitated about this?

Ireland and Denmark voted leave (against Lisbon Treaty) in their own referendums, unlike the UK they had to vote again and stayed in the EU through a rigged 2nd referendum.

Rigged you say :joy:

You’ve completely missed the point.

What did you think a 2nd referendum was ?

The opinion polls show the Danes are in favour of staying in.

What makes you think the polls are rigged

Ironic given the nature of so many of your posts. But I can see that you are dying to make some anti-EU point. Go on, knock yourself out. Stop dancing round your handbag on this.

The polls weren’t rigged, Ireland and Denmark had to vote again until the EU got the answer it wanted.

You don’t know do you

You clearly say rigged

Yes the result is rigged - the first one wasn’t the answer they wanted so they did the referendum again and got the answer they wanted. No best out of 3 here

If there were to be a referendum here in the UK
I strongly believe the vote would be in favour of …it was wrong the leave the eu

Such sadness there wasn’t a best of 3 vote here .
That’s the advantage of hindsight imo

We had a referendum and leave won. Going by Johnsons victory in 2019 the leave vote overwhelmingly voted for Johnson to get Brexit done.

There is no way a 2nd referendum now would result in a remain vote. We would have to surrender everything we fought for in 2016 back to Brussels and give up all our other trade deals. It simply wouldn’t happen. Every prediction from Project Fear was wrong and didn’t happen. People won’t fall for the fearmongering just like they don’t believe what’s written in the Guardian about empty shelves in Tesco etc.

You still banging on about this? Where is the lie? The Maastricht Treaty was signed in 1992 when Britain was a full member, it was signed by Douglas Hurd an elected representative of the UK government.

The 1992 Conservative Manifesto for that year boasts:

"The Maastricht Treaty was a success both for Britain and for the rest of Europe. British proposals helped to shape the key provisions of the Treaty including those strengthening the enforcement of Community law defence, subsidiarity and law and order. But Britain refused to accept the damaging Social Chapter proposed by other Europeans, and it was excluded from the Maastricht treaty. "

It went on to say:

"At Maastricht, we secured agreement that the European Court will be able to fine any Member State which fails to do so. "

There is a lot more in this vein.

This was the Manifesto for an election that the Tories won in 1992 so you Tory voters supported their decision to sign the treaty.

So don’t give us the BS that Britain had nothing to do with it, Britain led the way in creating the EU and you Tory voters gave it the Thumbs up!.
