@AnnieS ,. “not personal”
Probably not! but it is a simple matter to highlight an individual for special
attention just using their user name ? Even before perusing the post ??
I assume that is what you refer to as programming Annie ?
Just seen some figures on the rewards that the EU reaps from fishing in Uk waters each year,
It seems that EU fleets take 8 times in tons more fish out of UK waters
than UK takes out of EU waters!
This equates to £7•6 billion in PROFIT annually !! PROFIT! not turnover, which
must be at least three times that amount !!
This is a benefit of Brexit, we just need to claim it !!
WE, must make it happen !
Why are we so pathetic !!
Well as you know we have come out badly on the fishing issue in the Brexit negotiations so what do you want me to say ?
We ain’t going to have a massive revival in the fishing industry anytime soon if anything at all.
The problem is that while leavers have become all so very worked up about fishing, its simply not a big issue for the UK. In fact, the whole country could not have given a fig about our fishing industry for decades. I know, I come from a fishing community and, one generation back, family. This was the proper UK fishing fleet, the deep sea one operating from the north east. Not the piddling local west country one. This is fleet where they can land a £250k catch in one go and sell in Europe’s largest fish market in Peterhead.
Its not just some notion about the UK selling out to EU in granting fishing rights. It is also that the whole industry was ignored, sidelined and no-one really bought the fish - in the UK that is. The market for fish and shell fish was Europe. The UK bought cod and that’s your lot. And cod was over fished to the point of almost extinction. By UK fishing boats as much as anyone else. Mostly in international waters in the north Atlantic.
Then the fishing licenses for UK waters was sold. Mostly to Irish and European companies. This was not theft, this was just that UK businesses were not interested. To be clear, most boats operate as sub-contractors to these companies with the licenses. Few boats own their own license.
All this was let happen by UK government after UK government. The selling out of UK fishing happened long before Brexit and Brexit changed nothing. Oh, it did, it made exporting fish and shell fish so much harder. That is killing the UK fishing.
So I’m sure all your numbers are correct. But really, its all history. And a history in which the UK does not care. Plus a history where over fishing has done more to reduce fishing than any action from Westminster or Brussels.\
@Muddy straffmore. To use a nautical word, BILGE!
1/ The sale of licences is just that, the sale of a licence ?
a licence to fish in OUR internationaly agreed waters !( our territory !)
It is not a surrender OF territitory !
A licence is renewable and can be rescinded !
A licence is NOT forever !
Under lnernational law large portions of the northern fall under UKs jurisdiction
This means that UK is responsible for issuing fishing licences for these areas !
That previous UK government’s allowed the EU to usurp them from these
duties is a disgusting deriliction of duty !!
But all is not lost, ( YET! )
In the next two years there was an agreement to hold finalising talks to
finish the unfinished brexit talks which were inexplicably deferred when
Boris ‘U’ turned at the end of the “negotiations”
We must make sure these finalising talks take place and that we get the
right outcome !!
However, this may all be in vain nowmin view of the direction this government
is taking, the remainers may get their wish after all, in view of statements
made by Truss in strasburg today!!
PS, over fishing by who ?
EU had been in charge for over twenty years?
We could put that right too
I like the Brexiter/Remainer labels, they define who’s who and we need to remember who is to blame for the consequences of Brexit to come and not trust them in the future or do anything to enable what they want
Anyone who voted Brexit and still supports it is a Brexiter to me and always will be. And I’ll always be a Remainer and proud of it.
And the only way to move forward and put things right is to rejoin
Remainers aren’t confused at all, we know who we should be loyal to, our country and our people. And the best way to show that loyalty is to fight for what’s best for them, and that’s rejoining the EU:eu:
I’ve no idea who the Brexiters think they are being loyal to?
@Maree , Well we all know who YOU are loyal to Maree!
You shout it loud enough ??
As lve said before, your hysteria is palpable ,you need a sedative !!
