Both cameras are out of action

I dropped my camcorder and it is in for repairs. The zoom ring was knocked out of round so zooming is no longer smooth. Grabs and releases, affecting the smooth recording.
This morning I arose early for a possible sunrise photo opportunity. When I turned the camera on - “no memory card” appeared.
Card was there. I have gone through all the easy fixes, nothing worked.
Do I buy a new card and hope that is the issue. I do not want to buy another camera. The camcorder takes stills.
No idea how long the repair to the camcorder is going to take. It has been at the shop for 8 days now, no follow up as yet.

Oh no, that sounds really frustrating especially when you were all set for a sunrise shoot. I’d definitely try a new memory card first; it’s the cheaper fix and sometimes these little glitches surprise us. Hopefully your camcorder comes back soon. 8 days with no update is a bit much! Fingers crossed it’s sorted out quickly.

I agree with Pimmy I have had SD cards fail before

Thank you. I will be purchasing a new card today.
I can only hope that it works and it is not a camera issue.
The camcorder repairer said he will send me the approximate cost of repair before going ahead with it.
He also seems to be a one person operation. I could see out the back, there were a few video cameras on tripods. He most likely is busy.
Two weeks passed before he even acknowledged my first query regarding repair.

Don’t get a card from Amazon ,several reports of fake ones.I have only had one Sandisk SD card fail if that is any help and that fell apart. As for the camera have you tried a complete reboot just in case the card is ok. You could format the card as well with the computer, and a second time in the camera

my panasonic compact DC-FZ95 camera is also in for repair the zoom clicks as it expands

Before you lob the old SD card away Bretrick (if you haven’t already) just give the gold contacts a rub with a none greasy cloth. Sometimes the contacts get dirty and don’t make good contact …

I have wiped it several times. I will get some rubbing alcohol? and try that.
