Boris signs UK up for war!

Hi

The Ukraine was only formalised at the end of WW2.

Stalin agreed to the split, but the west agreed to to it being part of the USSR.

On the breakup of the USSR, the West set the boundaries.

This was a land grab and included areas which where traditionally Russian and Russian speaking.

The Crimea was historically Russian, as was the Donblas.

Best left alone, it was not a great problem.

It formed a natural barrier between Russia and NATO.

NATO, aka, the USA,decided to push it.

The UK, as we do, simply followed.

We are now paying the price for this.

Left alone, it would not have been a problem.

Putin was right in which respect?
He said he was going into Ukraine, his Special Military operation to save the people from a Nazi government which is odd coming from probably the most fascist leader since Hitler.

It’s a sticky wicket for sure as some parts of Ukraine want to be Russian controlled and the others a free state so where do you draw the line.?

As for Finland and Sweden again history takes a part

The Finnish War (1808-1809), was known as “the greatest national catastrophe in the long history of the Swedish state”, resulted in the country losing Finland to the Russian Empire. It was essentially the loss of a third part of its territory and a quarter of its entire population.

After Russia was taken over by the Bolsheviks in November 1917 Parliament issued a declaration of independence for Finland on December 6, 1917 so maybe Putin wants it back under his control to use as a stepping stone.

So we expect our troops to defend Sweden and Finland yet when they come home they will be treated like shit by the government.

Thats what pisses me off about this

All UK governments have treated our troops poorly but the MOD is even worse in its treatment of troops from equipment shortages to ignoring scientific evidence of the long term effects on what has been called the most toxic war, the Gulf War and veterans suffering even today from mysterious illnesses which have been linked recently to the use of sarin gas.

The thing is no one is forced to join the army . We don’t have conscription so everyone has joined of their own free will. In times of peace life is orderly and secure in times of war soldiers have to go and fight that is how it works .

Checkout on what Swimfeeder wrote. It’s absolutely correct.

Trying to figure out what on earth you post contributes to the thread.

As for Swimfeeder’s post I don’t see any relevance to Putin invasion of Ukraine that is not to say Ukraine is blameless far from it but that does not detract from the fact that Putin is a nasty dictator who is probably mentally ill and we in the west have pretty much let him get away with everything he has authorised like the Salisbury poisonings and the many other deaths to Russians who have fallen out with him who he as had killed with impunity.

Precisely. Putin is a very nasty piece of work and the sooner someone “does him over” the better.

He was protecting Russia from a very real western threat. Just as Kennedy was when he confronted the USSR when there was a movement of probably first strike missiles onto Cuba.

And when did he mention that as all I have heard was that he was saving the Ukrainian people from a Nazi government though he seems to have given up on that one having failed so miserably to beat the Ukrainian forces?

You mentioned Mr F that you were in the marines did you why did you join up?

I believe you should try to see the whole Ukrainian picture from a 30,000 feet perspective. A very good start would be re-read what Swimfeeders wrote.

Did you miss this?

Escape from my life as it was then.

I didn’t miss it — but you’re wrong on so many levels.

So far on this thread, nobody has said how or why the old
USSR collapsed ? And why they appeared to embrace capitalism
so eagerly ? All the signs were that that the old Soviet mind set
was gone forever ?
Then suddenly it all changed back again ! WHY ?
What caused this ??

@Eliza , l think you over-rate Boris Eliza ?
He is unable to concentrate long enough to solve any problems
he tackles ??
This is evident from his recent record in negotiations !

@The_Artful_Todger , There is no comparison between Cuba
and Ukraine Todgy, For one thing with Cuba, the west was in a
state of a “cold war” with the Kremlin at the time !
And for another, Russia was clandestinely sending missiles into Cuba in what seemed to be civilian cargo ships ??
Whereas in Ukraine there have been no armaments supplied untill
the Russian invasion was allready well established !!
This invasion took place whilst relations between Russia and the
west were apparently good ?

The armed forces have been receiving cuts gain and again. Now, suddenly Boris makes a promise that suggests that these cuts didn’t happen. He was probably warned not to do this but he loves making grand gestures. Anything to take attention from partygate.
