As my computer is situated in another room from the router and I am sometimes getting a signal loss . So a bit of head scratching as to the cheapest way to increase the signal. No most ways too expensive. So another head scratch and thinking what about the aerial receiving the signal instead?
Before doing anything I need to know which motherboard is in the computer. No not by taking it apart but using this interesting and very helpful download. So getting back to the reason of posting, can I get a better receiving aerial? Yes with a bit of research.
it is not just the aerial but the connection to the mother board. Most have a screw fitting but mine is a straight plug and socket push fit, which made it that bit harder to find. Then is the aerial compatible with the mother board? Next question. Yes I found one and claims to have a stronger reception than the one that came with the computer.

My laptop in the front room is a mere twelve feet away from the router - no issues.
My son has quite a capable gaming type PC in the next room. Also no issues although I’m wondering if a ‘booster’ of sorts might improve it’s performance. We’ll have a little chat!
I’m curious of how successful @realspeed ‘s solution is. It’s sort of analogous to turning up one’s hearing aid instead of the volume of the tv/radio. Perhaps the issues that arise from doing so are also similar.
OK new aerial just arrived and plugged into the computer. First impressions . Getting on to sites like this faster by about 10%+ .This is because it is a bigger aerial by about that much which would account for it?
Re viewing youtube vids, my own appear faster yes but watching ,others why I have no idea . Only a little quicker to display ,but against that has not lost signal as before. I do also realise that how much band width? is being used at the same time which may come into the equation. that is not even going into build quality.
