Bob's Bits.

You certainly have knack of making a bloke feel good about himself Surfermom…:frowning:
I like to think Bob’s Bits is a little more sedate than the exercise thread…:024:
And thanks for your offer of some poultry, but I think I’ll give it a miss thank you…

Being as I’m not shuffling around on country roads for a while I’ve managed to finish my Annual Mileage Graph and couldn’t wait to download it on to the forum…:-D…but I’ve met with a snag…:017:…Although you can see the bar graph great, you can’t read any of the numbers…I guess I’ll have to think it out again…:102:

I’ve posted it anyway. Along the bottom are Years starting with 1980 and ending with 2017. The sides are calibrated in miles with the maximum at 1800 miles and the lowest is 40 miles…

Oh, Bob, you know I love giving you a bit of trouble . Besides, it’s good for you.

Wow! This data is amazing! I’ll give your chart the attention it deserves tomorrow. I seem to be able to read the numbers without difficulty

You should consider posting it over in the exercise forum? I wouldn’t want anyone to miss it.

1800 miles in a year? That’s five a day, Bob. Unreal…

Thanks for the thumbs up regarding my mileage chart Surfermom, I find it helps when you’re confined to quarters to visit some past expedition or do some number crunching concerning running or walking. Yes it was a good year in 1990 with nine full marathons, two fell races of 42 miles and 56 miles, two 20 mile hilly road races and a twenty six mile coast path race where I managed seventh place…It did start to go downhill a bit after that.

Thanks for the hug…is that for Valentines day? I’ll send one back for being the voice of my conscience……and a good friend…:049:

It’s been a week now since I was sidelined and just about all the symptoms of my cold have disappeared. An old Doctor used to say, “Your cold will take a week to go, but if you come and see me, I can have it gone in seven days”… I prefer not to put too many chemicals into my body, so the occasional Hot Lemon before bedtime seems to have done the trick. Taking something hot to bed should be courtesy of the NHS…

I hoped to rest the Piriformis for a fortnight, but I’m beginning to get withdrawal symptoms so I might just go and walk my three mile route later. I can still feel slight discomfort with stretching, but these things do tighten up as they heal, don’t they?
Although it was freezing cold on the morning of the injury (so easy to tear muscles when cold) I was wondering if the speed work might have inflamed it earlier. I’ve never been a fast runner, just persistent!.. Perhaps three miles flat out is a bit too far…:018:

Bob, I hope you and Mrs. Fox had a lovely Valentine’s Day! Did you end up making her pancakes with oranges?

While it was meant to ease the sting of the teasing I have lobbed your way, that hug most definitely serves double duty in appreciation for your valued friendship and encouragement! So in that spirit, here is another one for good measure. http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/hug/hugs.gif

Lest I get any more sappy, I am off to the exercise thread to talk…data .

As one door closes, another one opens so to speak…
I’ll just collect all my hugs off the doormat, kick off my running shoes (I won’t be needing them for a while) and snuggle back on the forum sofa…

It’s a fortnight today that we’ll be making the cross Pennine drive to Manchester in preparation for our cruise to the Caribbean. I always think it’s a wise choice to set off the day before and stay in a Premier Inn (other digs are available) the night before boarding the plane and flying to Barbados. Especially at this time of year when there is a distinct possibility that the only way over the Pennines would be by sled…

I haven’t even bought a suitcase yet, my medium sized one is usually sufficient, I mean, how much room does a couple of pairs of shorts, tee shirts, budgie smugglers and running shoes take up…? On a cruise you need to dress like James Bond on four occasions, that means at least one suite and a couple of crisp white shirts…I guess I’ll have to carry my knotted hankies, Jesus Sandals and snorkel in my hand luggage…:102:…Ship ahoy…

“I packed my bags last night pre flight;
Zero hour is nine AM.
And I’m gonna be Hi—g–h as a kite by then”

Well actually, zero hour is 12:05pm…and it’s tomorrow…But we set off today for a leisurely drive across the Pennines and (hopefully) a comfortable night in one of the many Premier Inns dotted around the country. Too risky to drive there on the same day…:018:
I’d just like to shake the hand of the bloke who invented the wheels on cases…:023:
Good job…I might just make Barbados without the need for a wheelchair…:-p

Have a great time Bob and come back refreshed, don’t forget to take your sea legs

Thanks Mags…Ship Ahoy!..

Have a great time Bob… say hello to the Azura for me.

Leave driving over the Pennines till later today we have snow here right now but rain due later so it will clear

Enjoy  x

Thanks Summer, I’ll be going over Woodhead Pass in a couple of hours, better pack a flask and warm coat.
I’ve just had an e-mail from P&O telling me that due to storm Riley we won’t now be calling at Ponta Delgada in the Azores on our return to Southampton. Instead we will be returning to Bridgetown after visiting Antigua, to pick up supplies and sail for eight days, instead of six, across the Atlantic back to blighty…:frowning:
Was looking forward to the trip up to the volcano…:frowning:

How lovely Foxy, I missed all this.
We will need full reports you know.
Enjoy yourselves.
Sweetie x

You’ll soon be sick of me Sweetie Pie…But here goes…

Not at all. I love your holiday posts. It keeps us all going.

Bit of a late start (2:00pm) but no problems other than a couple of annoying traffic queues, and someone’s decision to rebuild the road network around Manchester Airport…On a dual carriageway my satnav could only suggest that I was travelling across a field…No help at all.

The Pennines were tempting me to wander deep into their snow covered interiors, but they will have to wait until later in the year…They certainly looked nice though.

Beautiful pic Foxy.
We had a satnav once, that nearly took me of the edge of a dock!!!

Hope all is well OFF and you are enjoying yourself

Your daughter is beautiful, OGF :-D. What a handsome couple thay make; they look very happy together! It sounds like you had your share of adventures right off the mark. The itinerary changes must have been a disappointment, but I am sure the alternative was just as interesting.

We are holding down the fort and your space here for you to fill in the blanks with a picture or two…

Sorry for the absence of reports during my recent cruise, three reasons really, the first being that internet reception was poor – in fact non-existent - in our cabin and I’ll be damned to pay almost two hundred quid to write reports while sat outside in the corridor. The second was the discovery of a heavily thumbed James Patterson novel I found abandoned on a table in the smokers section- kept me well hooked - And finally, the third. The cruise hasn’t turned out to be quite what I expected.

We arrived late in the afternoon after the eight hour flight to Barbados, from near zero temperatures in Manchester to twenty eight plus degrees in Barbados meant that we were slightly overdressed and stressed. It also meant that for the next five days there would be shore visits to Barbados, St Lucia, St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and back to Barbados, before we could properly explore the ship or it’s amenities. Because of the omission of our visit to Ponta Delgada due to stormy weather, it meant an eight day sail without a stop back to blighty.

I honestly couldn’t find much that inspired me to write an account on the forum. It’s taken me all my time to find something to write in my journal. Beautiful beaches and clear blue warm sea were expected here, and after swimming and snorkelling on the first visit to Barbados, I found that most visits were too limited do to much more than a trudge round the shops. Although I love my daughter to bits, I think the cross generational thing has us wanting different things from our holidays. She and her proposed husband work full time and like nothing better than to spend days in the sun relaxing. I would have liked to take more trips around the various places of interest but was sadly outvoted.

But the most important thing to me was the inability to take part in any kind of physical activity due to my painful Piriformis Muscle. On one occasion I did manage to walk a couple of miles around the promenade deck and managed to jog some, I must admit it felt so good to be up on my toes with the wind in my face, but I suffered heavily on the following day, finding it very painful to bend or stand. Swimming did provide some relief, but once underway, the motion of the ship produced huge waves in the pool that were impossible swim through, although I did try.

I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, I have enjoyed this holiday, and it has been good to spend some quality time with my daughter and her intended. There has been some excellent entertainment on board ship, and of course the food and service is legendary (did I mention the very well equipped gym) and why do all the cabin attendants look like Bruce Lee? But this cruise has not lived up to expectations…Maybe it’s just me?

So after a five hour coach trip back to Manchester airport from Southampton (Isn’t it cold here) we’ve just enjoyed a delicious meal in the Premier Inn round the corner and plan to return home in the morning. Just when I thought my Piriformis was beginning to show signs of recovery, humping suitcases around has again returned me to a painful existence. I must say though, my daughters intended has taken on the lions share of the heavy lifting, good sense of humour too…

I love your side of the pond Surfermom…
