isn’t Robin Williams dead too?

Yes, he is. He died in 2014.

I forgot . . . Colin Firth and David Tennant.

@Gee3 - Oh - i hadn’t reaiised we were including females - but I don’t need to now as you have listed my favourites anyway - would just add one more -

Maxine Peak - she is incredible.

Definitely David Tennant, he’s got a great range and has done a big variety of good stuff

And for a nice guy he does a good evil :japanese_goblin: I thought he was well creepy in Jessica Jones

Kit Harington is funny in that clip but he’s too Emo usually

Not keen on female actors, but like this one…

Lily James.
Like him too.

You like the violent woman beater?

As an actor, LD, not necessarily as a man.

As an ‘actor’ he is very convincing with violent roles and I believe that is his violent inner self coming to the fore.

Very difficult to decide who is the ‘Best’ modern day actor. All of the above have acted in some very good films and drama’s and I can’t honestly say that I dislike anyone already mentioned.
I don’t tend to watch many films nowadays, like Mupsy says, most are lacking a good story and usually chocked full of disturbing scenes of violence and car chases. My childhood would bring up lots of good actors including John Wayne, Garry Cooper, Alan Ladd (I was brought up on westerns) Robert Mitchum (who I was named after) Charles Bronson, Harrison Ford, John Voight, Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman, Kirk Douglas, Charlton Heston etc.

I suppose my best actor would have appeared in the most films I’ve enjoyed, and that would probably be Tom Hanks. I haven’t seen a film with him in that I haven’t enjoyed, But Tom Cruise has also provided me with some good hours of viewing.
Good British films, with home grown British actors and actresses in, have to be my favourites though, with ‘The Full Monty’ ‘Brassed Off’ ‘Kess’ ‘Billy Elliot’ ‘Lock, Stock, and Two Smokin barrels’ ‘Get Carter’ ’ Educating Rita’ to name but a few.

oh yes, the boy and ‘our jud’ infact all the acting was brilliant in Kes. Even her that played Ivy Tilsley in Corrie lol

Can I mention some of the best (IMO) modern day actresses?

Judy Dench
Maggie Smith
Julie Walters
Meryl Streep
Glenda Jackson
Emma Thompson
Helena Bonham Carter
Helen Mirren
Vanessa Redgrave
Imelda Staunton

And some of the best modern day TV actresses:
Anna Maxwell Martin
Sarah Lancashire
Nicola Walker
Joanne Froggatt
Emilia Fox

His rolls aren’t all violent, there are some humorous parts as well in most of his films, I like the wacky characters he plays, specially Pirates of the Caribbean & Alice in Wonderland.

One really good actress who doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s list is Dervla Kirwin

Saw her first in ‘A Time to Dance’ with Ronald Pickup, then in ‘True, Dare, Kiss’ with David Bradley, and later in ‘Ballykissangel’ with Niall Toibin. She has appeared in several TV series since then but, for me, her most remarkable performance was as Jinx in ‘The Dark Room’ - one of Minette Walters stories. Dervla was brilliant in that - and she did something that I would never have done no matter how much they paid me - she had all her beautiful hair shaved off

A brilliant TV and film actor I forgot to mention is Stephen Graham. I don’t feel he gets the recognition he deserves although he has won some awards. I only discovered him last year in a series called ‘Time’ and he was superb in it. I’m looking out for stuff of his to watch.

Another couple I like is Sheridan Smith and Sarah Lancashire.

Did anyone see Line of Duty? I must look out for that to watch, he was in that.

I always enjoy watching Martin Freeman in both comedy and serious drama he is such a good actor…another favourite is Lennie James

Oh I do like Martin Freeman as well…although he brings his familiar facial expressions and pauses into every role he plays, and I often wonder if he is like that in real life…
