Aren't you glad now that we left the EU?

They aren’t in a weak position either. Because they do have the whole Germany didn’t pay reparations after trashing their country & leaving them to let Stalin rampage argument. Out of the former eastern bloc countries they would be the most significant to the EU.

But read the title of that report: Before we sign any of our freedoms away, we must protect those things which are important to us. I’m sure each of the other participating countries have also thought about the same safeguards.

A free-trade agreement should benefit ALL participants, not all participants EXCEPT THE UK!
We fell for that when the EEC morphed into the EU.

I suppose I don’t trust our government or believe they care enough about the NHS or food standards etc to make the effort to protect them.

All they care about is profits for their mates.

You’re not wrong, Mary. I don’t trust our government either.
I still live in hope that before long, 2024 at the latest, there will be a change of government.

I pray for another Maggie!

Ah! the woman that broke Britain. It speaks volumes that she is cited as the best leader since the war.

Why would we pay through the nose for generic medicines ? You do know what generics are right ?

At the end of Maggies premiership we were in much better shape than when she took the job on.

As usual labour are given a gold plated economy and they screw it up every time and hand the country back to the Tories to sort out.

Socialists answer to their failure is always “more socialism” and that’s when things really go to shit. As we saw in Blairs second term, for example.

That’s not really saying much to be honest.

Australia was very much better off at the end of her reign and didn’t have a recession for over 30 years Purely because of the economic reform brokered by the Hawke Keating government who united the country with The Accord rather than breaking it as Thatcher did.

At the end of labour before Thatcher took over, we had inflation through the roof, the economy bankrupt, the unions holding the country to ransom and people working a 3 day week - thats those lucky enough to actually have a job, plus the winter of discontent.

That is actually saying an awful lot Bruce.

I find this thread a bit naive !
We live in a democracy and adults who live here have the right to vote on which party we want to rule the country or whether we should leave the EU?
Boris was voted to be PM and we have left the EU so why argue about things we can no longer change.

I seriously did not want to live in a country where the majority of people had no idea of how British people wanted to live… so I voted Brexit.
Personally I thought that Boris was a buffoon, but he was voted in to get us out of the EU … which he did even if we didn’t like parts of the agreement.
I think it is a waste of time to be arguing about decisions that were made a few years ago, when we should now be focusing on what the future holds and who should deal with it.

Maree may be right in thinking that one day we may be safer if we belonged to the EU, as we would be a bigger country, but I suspect that the EU were not as good when dealing with Covid , as different parts of the EU were struggling to get sufficient vaccinations.

Sometimes they will do things better and other times we will, so shouldn’t we wait for things to happen before taking sides?

I had high hopes for Boris, especially when he did achieve BRINO with May’s so-called agreement. It is only now when he has continued to give in to the EU’s demands, especially those of the French, that I see him as a buffoon. Yes, I should have seen that earlier.

“Safer if we belonged to the EU as we’d be a bigger country”, eh? Why not give in to Russia or China instead and then we’d be an even bigger country? Perhaps I’m a bit old-fashioned, but I prefer to remain in our own country, small though it may be, but under our own control and not under the control of a foreign power. I really can’t understand people who would sell us out to another country.

Our own government did that when they believed what they were told by the Common Market agreement! Were they all so naive that they did not have any idea what it would lead to?

The simple answer: yes!

They had no idea of what might happen when we joined the Common Market, as that was a simple free-trade organisation. Nothing wrong with that.

The problems arose when the dictators in Brussels began to impose more and more rules on the members of the free-trade organisation. It was at that time that our leaders should have realised the dangers, but no they continued to naively sign up to additional legalities putting us under the EU thumb.

Calling Britain a democracy is pretty naive isn’t it? It is nearly there just not quite.

Don’t think that will be the case this time, the economy is a hot potato.

Labour should pass on this one.

What ever anybody thinks… makes no difference now…most ot the UK is owned by others…the Uk Politicians has constantly sold off your well being to a Great Britain… .to look like we were rich…god she fooled you Thacker…well that did not last long did it
…fools following fools…welcome to the real world.
UK alone…be happy in 2022

Thanks … and have a good 2022 in France, vying with, or collaborating with Germany to run the EU.
I suspect the EU has a rocky road ahead as it tries to bring some of it’s more recalcitrant members to heel.

I don’t think there’s any vying for control. Germany runs the EU without any doubt. France just likes to think she does!
A very interesting situation in the EU: the strongest military power being effectively being ruled by the strongest financial power.

Mort it is not my priority I just felt I needed to state some home truths as you all talk such far fetched garb…
I am fighting to live that is my priority in truth for 2022…
