Aren't you glad now that we left the EU?

Typical socialist, when asked a serious question can only reply with swerving and deflecting.

It’s pointless trying to have a sensible debate with a soclialist, as I’ve said many times on here. You prove it over and over again.

Before the Tories got in the tax allowance was £6,450, it’s now at £12,570.

Raising the tax allowance doesn’t help people on benefits or low wages who are in receipt of universal credit

But it does mean the better off benefit from it too, instead of targeting resources on lower paid

A better way to help those on low paid jobs would be to increase the minimum wage to the living wage, but no sign of that

Why would socialists not pay taxes? I’m one and I do

Tax is a good thing and the fairest way to find our society as long as they are paid by those who can best afford to and the ones who take the most from our society

I think low corporation tax and the loop holes it provides for tax avoidance by the better off is appalling

Our government should concentrate on closing the loopholes so HMRC can prosecute and recover the money, but they won’t, because it’s mostly them and their chums found the avoiding

Socialism is legitimised theft. The moment taxation is used for the redistribution of wealth the wheels come off the cart.

Yes thats a reduction in personal tax because its an increase in personal allowance.

Back to the OP. There is the world of difference between the EC which was a common market and the EU which is a singularly undemocratic monster. We voted in favour of joining the EC but NEVER were given the choice of signing up to the EU. Signing up to join the EU resulted in throwing our sovereignty away and with it our right to self government.

Exactly right AT.

The problem is the wealth that is spread needs to be generated and regenerated, its OK spreading the wealth (from capitalism) the first time, the problem is keeping it up, as we saw under labour

1945 Labour elected
1947 Britain bankrupt

1964 Labour elected
1964 Britain bankrupt

1975 Labour elected
1976 Britain bankrupt

1997 Labour elected
2008 Britain bankrupt

At last, I’ve given you proof. :grinning:

Lowering corporation tax increased tax revenues when it was lowered by the conservatives. Taxes are paid when taxes are fair, putting huge tax levies on business and people only ends up with more tax evasion (as we saw under labour).

Thinking that the government knows best how to spend money is a huge mistake, the only remedy in the 80s was privatisation because even the tax payer couldn’t come up with that amount of funding due to the lunacy of the labour government before it.

Low corporation tax means more foreign investment, more corporation tax revenues, more jobs, more investment and the cycle repeats.

If any money needs to be recovered its the COVID fraud that people spent during the pandemic.

Rubbish, Todger. That’s not a fault of socialism, it is a fault in the way it’s administered.

Try thinking deeper.

Anyone who can see a way of avoiding tax but does not is a fool. Anyone who can see a way of evading tax and decides to take the risks associated with doing so and decides it’s worth doing so – good luck to them.

That’s a legitimate point of view, Todger, but so is one that involves principles. Your attitude is that of a cheat, which is fine, but if you are regarded and treated as one, that’s fine too. :+1:

But ask me if I care about how I am regarded (hint - I honestly don’t) and as long as I can go my way within the bounds of how I am treated likewise why should I care? I’ve done pretty well thus far!

Of course you don’t care, that is the hallmark of the cheat. You wouldn’t think cheating was okay if you cared. :102:

Cheats often do.

Why? It could just be that they know they earn a fair whack and don’t mind chipping in.

Can’t see anything foolish in that myself

But if there is I’d rather be that kind of fool than a dirty little money grabber always looking for a chance to dodge out of paying their way

It means we’ve got a right to be mad when it gets wasted or doled out to the Tory chumocracy though

As for tax evasion, it’s a crime. Do you wish good luck to any other crims?

Maree,

Dare I ask where the money will come from, to pay for any increase in the minimum wage?

For example, if I was a shop owner and was told to increase the pay of my staff what would I do next?

(a) Take the hit?

(b) Raise my prices to balance my books?

Higher tax on high earners, of course. Squeeze the upper middle class. :smiling_imp:
