What did you do on nights?

If I was on my own I would not have any sort of routine. Now,it’s essential for the efficient management of the household.(Yeah right! ) :slightly_smiling_face:

I worked in EMI units,Advanced Dementia care, …3 nights a week usually…went onto days when the boys were older…then worked as a cook for many years, again in either nursing or residential care.

Trust me, it’s boring :102:

Sounds like hard work.

Heating comes on at 6am, Mrs d00d serves breakfast in bed, 9am coffee is served in the kitchen.

We do different stuff, sometimes together, sometimes we go our own way.

6pm supper is served, by me.

Riveting stuff !

Before retirement I had a routine. In the early days when working it was a strict routine, necessary as I had two young children to keep in touch with. In addition there was working ‘silly hours’, permanent night shifts, a house, garden and car to run and maintain. My parents lived a 250-mile round-trip car journey away, they were getting older so various tasks there to do which meant a weekend away. In between all that I sometimes managed to do something socially for myself.

Later, after all that came semi-retirement. Time to breathe, take time for myself and do what I wanted, when I wanted, and very importantly if I wanted to. That was followed by full retirement and moving home, more time to breathe and relax.

Three years of that and the same as for everyone, along came lockdown! Nearly two years of that with no control over my life at all and almost solitary confinement, nearly all minimum routine has gone. That totally disappeared, along with what was a really nice, relaxing lifestyle, after many years of hard work and rushing around. Nowadays I hardly know what day of the week it is, so much for planning to enjoy a well-earned retirement!

A heart attack just two years after semi-retiring was a problem but on the plus side I still wake up every morning. A lesson learned the hard way about stress and what that can do to any fallible human being. Now it’s onwards and upwards, as the saying goes.
 :grinning:

Routines don’t seem to suit me

Every so often, when the chaos in my life gets too much, I try to stick to a strict routine.

It works for a while, but it makes me depressed, I lose my spark and then I rebel and start breaking my own rules!

I am much happier drifting merrily along in creative chaos!

My thoughts exactly, I have a Jack Russel, so I do routinely hoover his hair up at least 3x a day, otherwise all who enter, will get covered In dog hair, his shedding has got worse, :open_mouth:…,

When I had M E for 3 years, I was under a professor ,who explained all about stress to me, and what it puts the organs under, didn’t make sense then, but it certainly makes sense now, no stress in my life Baz, life is far to precious, I’m glad you made a full recovery, look after yourself.

An addendum. As I mentioned, I’m retired and have have a fairly regular routine now - especially with the dogs. You have to.
In my day job it was far routine. I was all over the country and much of the rest of the world.Tin mines in Malaysia, Mondi Valley Paper in Durban, large water stations in the basements in Hong Kong. Sometimes a challenge but routine it was not!

May, You have a great attitude to ‘routine’. I am just the same! I don’t do ‘routine’, it would drive me mad and l would feel like a ‘Stepford Wife’!
I hate when anyone says to me, ‘What are your plans for today?’ I don’t plan, l just do what l want to do and take the day as it comes.
Afterall, you know what they say … All the best laid plans etc.

Maybe, taking one tablet and feeding the hens each morning is a ‘routine’ but they are necessities!!
