Almost half of all face-to-face GP appointments being taken up by ‘frequent

Soon, we may be required to buy tickets!

There is another way of looking at this, methinks, and that is to fund the NHS & do sufficient Management of their resources, to make sure we have enough Doctors, Nurses, etc, to do what the patient needs.

Hi

I have had one face to face with my GP since Covid started, but have had 9 hospital stays, heart surgery, several heart attacks and Covid and Acute Pulmonary Oedema.

The face to face was a home visit.

I leave my GP well alone.

I am a frequent caller to the 999 Ambulance Service, and always taken in, however I do get told off by the Resus and Intensive Care people for not phoning earlier, I am happy with that.

I keep telling them that they are constantly saying do not call 999 unless it is an absolute emergency, so I don’t.

Their response is, that is not aimed at you and other critically ill patients, it is aimed at others.

You have not sprained a wrist or chucking up because you have drunk too much.

The last time I went in, last Monday, it was a two hour wait for an ambulance, I had left it so late that by the time they arrived and did the tests I triggered the Sepsis Pathway.

I was very grateful to get in and get treated.

In Resus we had 3 patients off their heads on Recreational Drugs and a couple of Drunks who had injured themselves.

Three pairs of NHS Security and two Police Officers dealing with these pillocks, who where a nightmare for the staff.

They were loud, noisy, abusive and threatening to the staff and kept escaping their beds, one in particular who was looking for stuff to nick.

Unfortunately the NHS has to give the same level of service to all.

A personal view, but I do feel we need to need the system.

My health board constantly posts on Facebook about not going to A&E unless critical, how are we supposed to know. I had chest pains and I mentioned it to my GP Practice receptionist who had phoned about blood tests, she spoke to a GP who then spoke to me and suggested that she call an ambulance this was at 9 am, I was still waiting at 3 pm, lovely lady from the ambulance service phoned to apologise where upon I cancelled the ambulance as she told me it could be a few more hours and then I would be quite sometime in A&E I decided nope, my GP phoned the next day to give me a ticking off where I suggested I could have got a taxi to the hospital in the morning rather than wait on an ambulance that was not going to come anytime soon.

I have mentioned this before but I was diagnosed with a throat infection over the phone and prescribed medication, as I was not convinced of this I contacted my ENT guy and an appointment then biopsy later it seems my throat cancer is back.

Three months later and I await a further consultation with the oncologist when any treatment I might have will be be started.

We are told constantly that we must not overwhelm the NHS, this is disinformation as the NHS has been overwhelmed for the past two years the backlog and waiting times are horrendous and will not improve for decades.

One of the several reasons for frequent visits by some patients is the system. For those with multiple morbidities, it’s usual for doc to only deal with one ‘item’ at a time and then not forgetting that some 'item’s will require regular monitoring meaning frequent revisits.
Statists and spread sheets only tell part of the story and of course, the media selectively pick up on anything that slots nicely into their agenda of misleading the general public easily lead by their nose-rings into believing all sorts of tosh🤬

Yes, absolutely disgusting, but this has been the situation for as long as I remember.
On the other hand, I suspect that such things were not tolerated in the days of my childhood in the 1950s.
I think that the problem these days is twofold.
Firstly, people demand more from medics but are unwilling to accord them the respect they deserve in return.
Secondly, everyone ‘knows their rights’ and many will threaten legal action if they don’t get what they want.
Consequently, staff are reluctant to tell drunken yobs what to do with themselves and kick them out, although I have seen notices to the effect that any anti-social behaviour to staff will result in those responsible being removed from the building. I don’t know how often the latter is put into practice, though.

I wonder how such yobs would be dealt with in some other countries: Russia, China, or even closer to home.

Even if you took a taxi to A&E you’d be likely to have to wait for 8 hours (like I was recently).
No overt yobs on this occasion, thankfully, but several young people (it’s always young people) who appeared to be perfectly well and certainly well enough to chat to their friends on their phones for up to an hour.

… … we don’t have that A&E problem in my area. There are several Minor Injuries units where anyone can walk in and sort out minor problems. Since these units have been operating, they have freed up the A&E units for more serious cases.

I’m thinking of sending my GP a note asking if he’ll give me a face to face if I agree to pay him the money he gets for doing a Vaxx Jab!

They sound like a damned good idea. They’d relieve a lot of time in A&E.
I don’t think we have any of them around here, but perhaps I’m just not aware of them.

I’m trying to work out why I can’t see either of the posts you are replying to. Are they on a different thread?

He might see you face to face if you tell him you know how to stop him getting his covid jab payment.

You haven’t been putting people on ‘ignore’, have you Anne?

Labour set them up and the Tories have been trying to close them all down. I think the ones that survived have been renamed urgent care centres…

Absolutely not. I prefer an unfiltered technicolour experience!

hang about, I can now see all the posts, before I had some sort of advert in the middle!

All I can say it that I admire them for it…
though it’s the first and only thing of benefit to the country that I’ve ever seen them do.

Of course not. You didn’t see my ‘wink’ did you?
