Before I explain what and how etc, one of the biggest annoyance in a photograph Is seeing a dark unwanted spot in the photograph. This could either be on the lens ,which can easily be cleaned or worse on the sensor in the camera.
One way to find out where the dirt spot on the sensor is by taking a photo of the sky and looking at it on a monitor. The problem here is everything is reversed. what show up in the top left of the photo is actually on the bottom right of the sensor. this needs repeating several times to ascertain the spot has gone.
Ok this is what I used to do until I bought a loupe as below
So how does it help and how to use?
This is a magnifying glass with built in lights, when placed over the camera instead if a lens, allows one to see directly where the dirt is on the sensor
Ok then one can go into the sensor cleaning routine by whatever method chosen.
This bit of Kit I have had for at least 15 years if not longer. The amount of money saved not having to send the camera away for cleaning must run into several hundreds of ÂŁ, let alone time with out the camera
The art of sensor sensor cleaning is simple + slow and careful and not to rush the Job. There is no “magic” in it just a question of the right tool and a clean workspace
Various methods include dry clean
a blower, I am not in favour using it as it can stir up dust inside another part of the camera body
or what is called an Artic Brush which when used correctly build up static electricity and attracts dust to it. I can explain how to If asked
other methods i have heard of but never used so can’t comment about them
Wet wipe for stubborn dirt
If the dirt on the sensor is hard to shift then we gone on to another method using swabs and sensor cleaning liquid
Swabs come in different sizes and round, many who don’t know pour the liquid onto the swap then find out the sensor is flooded with fluid and hard to clear up. A mistake I made originally. No! the best way is to put a drop or two onto a surface and dip the swap into it. Then the senor doesn’t get flooded.
Sensor cleaning for the first time is scary." will I damage the sensor- will I knock it out of line- what if I Can’t get it clean" goes through the mind . As I already said it takes time - care- gentleness- rushing it is a NO NO.
any questions then please ask
