Would you endorse and promote a product you didn’t believe in, that is if your job is selling
I can’t imagine ever doing that. But then again I have never been a salesman. Not in the usual sense leastways. Next!
I’ve worked in sales, my job has been to point out the positives and keep quiet about the negatives. In sales, it’s important to know the competition, and that will mean you know there is always something better in many ways. You’ve got to enjoy that challenge.
I wouldn’t.
Of course!
Whyever not?
Seriously, if it’s part of your job or if it’s going to result in a profitable outcome then I really see absolutely no issue.
If people don’t like the heat then keep out of the kitchen.
Some salespeople would sell their own mother to get commission and keep their figures up!
No - I quit a job because I didn’t believe in their products once.
If I didn’t believe in something I was selling I wouldn’t be doing the job, I would do a different job.
Different folks – different strokes.
I did 3yrs as a technical sales engineer in the early 1980s. I loved the technical engineering side but the sales side nearly killed me. In the end I resigned and went on the roll & roll for 6 months before getting a job in Rome.
I became a Sales Rep travelling around an area selling hairdressing products in 1969. It was awful. Driving around places l wasn’t familiar with and worrying about trying to make a sale.
I was totally exhausted and got styes on my eyes from the driving and the stress.
If you can do that job, then l admire you but l found it too tiring, stressful and a risk to your health!
… but you believed in the product?
Probably! Honestly, it was so long ago, l can’t remember!
I sounds like one of those jobs you were sold on.
Many moons ago … I attended interviews where they had no interest in me. It was total sales pitch …
The victms of Grenfell were the result of your philosophy Todgy!!
So l find your reference to liking the heat to be in very bad taste ?
There is a very good article in the Guardian tonight l recommend
that you read it??
Donkeyman!
if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen
A figure of speech, a metaphor
It is the responsibility of a sales person to sell a product.
If the salesperson has defined within his job description to provide advice on the suitability of the material for a given and stated application then that is a different matter.
Otherwise his responsibility is limited to processing a sale which comes down to negotiating a price and delivery schedule. Nothing more.
Very often in the case of large organisations there is a purchasing department that puts a further stage of separation between sales person and person specifying their choice of material within the users organisation.
Yes l know dOOd,??
Donkeyman!
Of course you do.
BTW you could try the soft sell.
Last time I was in M&S the staff were so gormless, I ended up buying something through sympathy.
