Worst smell you have come across

When I worked for BT one of the jobs I had was to install an extn bell in a sewerage farm right next to the mixing tanks underground. That made me heave my guts up

Funny you should mention this Speedy, I’ve just got off the phone with my Dad and we were talking about stinky sewage farms. I was saying what a horrible job it must be working at a smelly place like that.

polio has been discovered in one of them!

Worst smelling job I EVER had was working at a place called Sea Land Foods when I was 16. They used to make scotch eggs and pasties and on my first morning all they had me doing for the whole morning was shelling eggs and some were bad they stunk vile. I went for my lunch and nipped over the road to a book company and asked if they had any vacancies and they said I could start right away, so I never went back to the stinky job lol.

In one job in the morning and a new job in the afternoon, jobs were aplenty back then.

Decomposing Arab corpses in Israel many years ago. It’s a smell you never forget.

oh my goodness, that sounds horrendous

Piggeries can smell something rotten, but I don’t think anything can beat the odour of the sewage works.

We lived on a farm and farm smells were part the life. Cows, sheep, spreading manure on the fields…etc.
But fox poo without a doubt was a whole magnitude worse.

I certainly agree. Sure is a vile pong isn’t it.
And really hard to get rid off if the dogs get any on their feet or coat.

Many years ago, my last school was next door to a sewage farm, and the stench kept drifting in the windows when we had them open in the summer.
We used to watch those long arms going round that stretch over those circular ’ bed’ things.
It sure is one horrible pong, I agree.

A Power Station I worked at was near an abattoir and when the wind was in the right direction the smell of rotting meat and offal was absolutely disgusting. Didn’t happen all the time just in summer before the fertilizer trucks took the waste away.

It’s not the worst smell but the smell of the durian fruit is pretty awful -like rotting eggs .
The fruit however is highly prized and delicious if you can get past the smell.

A Post Mortem!

What! I love Durian, I followed a truck carrying a heap through the Cameron Highlands, love the smell. I think what people hate is that the smell endures

Yes, I was going to say that sweet sickly smell of death. I’ve only smelt it a couple of times but it was awful, I gag just thinking about it…Shudder.

What was your job then Tabby.

Death, also many years ago when I were knee high to a grasshopper some cows on a local farm had broken through an electric fence gorging on Rye grass is memory serves, they succumbed and died inflating up to huge proportions with gas, this had to be released to have them taken away, what a smell.

NHS Level 4 Management - I wasn’t conducting the Post Mortem - merely an observer - 6ft away behind a glass screen. Trust me, the stench of human internal organs is one you never forget!

Do we smell inside? :scream: Not something I have thought about, mind you, but I’m still surprised!

Oh yes! It is so bad a lot of student nurses faint or vomit at their first PM.

Depending on the cadaver and whether it was not found for a couple of days or more i’d imagine the aroma would be bad.
